(CNN) -- Police in North Carolina shot and killed a man running toward them Saturday morning -- but he may [He was] just looking for help after a car wreck.
Ferrell was 24 and a former football player at Florida A&M University.
Police found a wrecked car nearby, indicating that he may have been trying to get help.
"It was a pretty serious accident," Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Rodney Monroe told CNN affiliate WSOC.
The crash was so severe that authorities now believe Ferrell had to climb out of the back window, affiliate WBTV reported.
He ran to the closest house for help.
The woman inside thought it was her husband.
"To her surprise, it was an individual that she did not know or recognize," Monroe told WBTV. "She immediately closed the door, hit her panic alarm, called 911."
The man stood outside and "continued to attempt to gain the attention of the homeowner," a police statement said.

pretty sure a large portion of troops are redeemable but cops are some of the worst scum on this planet. Tardis-paine, thoughts???

i meant their ideology, and being redeemable in the sense of opposing hegemony. not that soldiers don't rape, murder and kill people at greater numbers than police. i mean, police and all their iterations in terms of domestically operating paramilitary, commit some awful awful atrocities, but im pretty sure it's less well known/cared about as it doesnt get the same media attention as when something like abu ghraib occurs
the tsarist secret police became the nkvd
edit: actually this isnt quite true but yeah

im not advocating support for us military or anything i was basically just making a meaningless and irrelevant point that the soldiers might be 2% better than police officers. it doesnt really matter, i guess, but i was just thinking about it after listening to soldiers ideologically voicing their opposition to imperialism now aftter once being soldiers, and i cant really think about any police who just quit the force because of the horrors american police commit upon people.
troops are chill but cops are even chiller.
my mother won't really fully go into it but my great granddad was part of the tsarist secret police. they fled russia tho, if only they stayed, i could have been Grandfathered into the kgb
