A new survey by Outbrain, a leading "content discovery platform" on the Web, tracked traffic data from its network of 100,000 publishers and major news organizations and found that Americans viewed 12 times as many pages about Miley as they did about Syria.

This disparity is in spite of the fact that hundreds of Syrians, including more than 400 kids, were recently gassed to death, and despite the fact that more than twice as many news stories about Syria have been published for every one about Miley in recent days.

The interesting bit about the data is that this disparity was the greatest in the USA, where President Obama is now in an uphill battle to persuade Congress and the American public to back his plan to bomb Syria and its stores of chemical weapons.

Miley interest, white-hot since her salacious twerk-fest on the Video Music Awards last month, significantly outpaces Syria interest in other countries, too, such as Australia, Britain, France and Germany.

In fact, Miley trumps Syria in every other country in the Outbrain network except Syria-supporter Russia, where interest was about even, and Israel, where next-door-neighbor Syria commands more attention for obvious reasons.

If Kurt Cobain enjoyed being an attention whore he would still be alive.
#6
there wasn't much else he could do after in utero
#7
Yeah I really don't know how he could top that and he probably would have just sold out, but still, he would be better than 94% kids that listen to (c)rap music.

what, join the neptunes and write catchy melodies?

I think Nirvana would have turned into some Foo Fighters/Melvins thing making mediocre pop rock. I think grunge gets harder as you get older, you can't crowd dive and break guitars after you're 27.

See, the foo-fighter connection is largely connected to Dave Grohl (who co-wrote only one song on the in utero album). To say grunge could've explored new territory is to believe that punk could've evolved beyond three chord progressions. It simply would not have happened. But what about the Pixies? Arthouse bands come and go. Fuck, even Radiohead made it onto a P. T. Anderson soundtrack.

Grunge doesn't get harder. It just adds more distortion as time moves on.

I don't think he was the embodiment of punk, 99% of everything is crap and he was just one of the few good musicians in the past two decades.

punk had nowhere to go after this song

Old punk isn't really my thing but I'm sure its good music. What bothers me is the prevalence indie folk and of male hipster vocals, which sound whiny, effeminate and wrong. Women are the only people who can sing those kinds of songs properly.

this is all i know about yeah yeah yeahs

Wasted, not trying to be harsh, but do you have a point beyond the fact that contemporary punk music is not on the clearchannel or something? there's the internet and I'm pretty sure you could go to a show and they wouldn't turn you away no matter how lame your pants are.

and yeah that mad song is sickk
#23
Im curious. When you listen to a grind song, how many times are you supposed to listen to it before you understand the vocals?
#24
like, if you don't like the music that's fine and whatever, but what is this 'accessible only to the initiated' thing?

I didn't listen to your song, and I don't really care how punk has evolved tbqh. To me, punk is an inherently conservative genre. But, that's not why I stay away from it. Hell, even most modern blues programs you hear on the radio don't stray away from traditional I, IV,V progressions. I also don't hold Cobain as the patron saint of some sort of neo-punk revolution. He was simply a talented guy who could hack out a melody with his voice regardless of the rampant plagiarism/repetition of his own harmonic developments. But punk just doesn't mean much to me and never really has.

there's not many bands that care about the lyrics that much, i think. if you want to get some kind of point across its more about selecting a good intro sample or whatevs. lot of vocalists just have the "lyrics" written but then dont bother actually enunciating words
