What is liberalism in a word? Liberalism in the pejorative sense is selfishness. It is the raising of plebian goals like material progress and social equality to the level of a value.

Rhizzone's social mission is liberal and repulsive. I do not agree with its ends. I agree with its means. I do this because state directed capitalism is currently the objectively, measurably best system for advancing human health and science and thereby sustaining some shred of aristocracy.

The reasons have to do with dysgenics and social security and whatnot but that's besides the point.

The point is that you're doing a good job and I just want you to stop making fun of Richard Dawkins for being a racist.

Getfiscal I support you, I just like to make fun of you because your beliefs aren't based on anything rational, they're due to your envy of the elite and reaction to unrealistic parental expectations.

Rhizzone is a cult because you can predict 90% of posters' political opinions based on the fact that they post here. There are some rare cases, like Panopticon opposing the healthcare bill and roseweird being lesbian, but by and large the positions are a more extreme form of the democratic party agenda. The few exceptions are all fascinated trolls.

Rhizzone is a zoo, no, a laboratory, no, a carefully self-prepared petri dish for observing the timeless archetype that is the white liberal mind, a product of social forces beyond its meagre control or understanding.

I guess Republican. I'm a registered Republican, and I believe they are a better party than the Democrats in terms of proclaimed financial responsibility, although I'm not ignorant: I realize both parties are in it to win it, so-to-speak, and neither are financial responsible. Still, something about Democrats that quite blatantly fight for socialism makes them the shortest midget in the game.

It's good. Towns were decisive for ending feudalism because they were magnets for the peasantry. With oil running out we'll be back to precapitalism fairly soon.

i am pretty sure my IT sector uncle is a libertarian, many of his arguments have the same cliches ("no you can't group capitalists and the state together, the capitalists are acting under compulsion from the state")

It's not that, its more like existing social programs aren't very progressive and aren't very effective in reducing poverty. If you have to spend 25% of the economy to take down poverty 2% then that isn't really rational.

The actual reason people support these programs is more crass and antediluvian. But I don't care about any of that stuff, just... reducing fertility rates- which is something I happen to enjoy!
