i vote at the local public school, they usually have local volunteers put on a little bbq thing at the same time so i usually just show up to buy a bacon and egg roll, get my name checked on the roll ($55 fine if you don't vote), write my swastika on the ballot then go home, light a doobs and watch the results roll in.
nice
we need a fuckin bbq at our voting places. I vote anyway because I'm a freakazoid but I would vote twice if I could get a pulled pork sandwich each time

iwc maybe if you hadn't taken up all the usable space with cattle ranches roads and subdivisions there would be room for more people now
why would we want an uncontrolled flow of low-skill, low-education muslim refugees arriving here
because it is kind to take in refugees and offer them education and a chance to learn new skills, they wouldn't be refugees if they had somewhere else to go or opportunities in their home, your country is very wealthy and can stand to take in refugees, their children deserve an education and your country is in a better position to provide it to them than elsewhere, if you treat them genuinely well they will be grateful, etc, there are a lot of practical reasons for taking in refugees if you aren't thinking like a capitalist piggie and observing "it is not efficient or profitable to take in refugees, plus they're all like, poor and traumatized, gross"
What practical reasons? Cheap labour? Sounds like perhaps it is you who is the capitalist piggie
Europe is having big difficulties absorbing, integrating or understanding it's muslim population, why replicate that here when we don't have to? Where do you stop with 'kindness', if we let in 20,000 a year then why not let in a million a year?

also it's a national tradition to be skeptical of boats, my girlfriend's parents are boat-refugees and she is nonplussed at best about the plight of the current wave. The hungarians and greeks who got here in the 50s are the most xenophobic people i've ever met, plus ask the indigenous population how they fared with uncontrolled boat arrivals

Not sure how wanting to protect a nation's tolerant attitude towards sexuality from bigotry is 'right wing' but ok
anyway these aren't 'opinion's but rather 'understandings' of the issue, please educate yourself before embarrassing yourself further with your ignorance or Australia' Boat-Societal-Nexus (BSN)

They're ok because generally they contain consumer goods rather than people and therefore while they also destabilize our society and culture they do so in a less confrontational and immediately visible manner.
roseweird posted:iwc your society and culture arrived by boat less than 500 years ago and has subsisted since by importing more and more of itself by boat
yeah and how did that work out for the people who were here already?
Why repeat history's tragedies?
roseweird posted:also don't pretend to have feminist concerns, that's tacky, if you care about women then allow these families in and give women and girls educational opportunities they wouldn't have elsewhere
I mean gay concerns, not strictly feminist ones.

the situation is not analogous, you are in a situation to be magnanimous, and they pose no credible threat to you.
what do you mean 'credible threat'? No it's not going to destroy our society but most Australians look at the riots in France or Britain or even Sweden and say 'well why run the risk here'?
Besides it's not like we don't accept refugees, we'd just like to be able to manage the numbers as best as possible so we don't end up like the united states for instance, where the ability of workers to organize and bargain is being constantly undermined by corporate-interest-friendly illegal immigration.

Whether boats come or no, it won't be decided by some lard arse yank eating hungry jacks while blathering on about jeffrey washington and the constitution or whatever the fuck low bred nonsense passes for discourse in the fifty states of that treacherous colony.
