A very real question was posed to me the other day by one of my NCOs. He asked "Why is the Marine Corp becoming so politically correct that we are loosing our traditions?" This was following a period of word passing that there would be no alcohol allowed at a unit function the next day. This prompted a large debate between the group, but it was finalized with "that is what the CO directed."

We know that the Corps' first recruiting station was a tavern, and that we have carried on our drinking standards for quite some time. Within the last 20 years the Corps has decided that it is inappropriate to have a beer or two at lunch, that a Marine does not need to be physical touched in boot camp, and that a Marine can not roll his/her sleeves?

Have you every been to a Mess Night that was dry? Have you ever been to a Mess Night in which a Marine completely degraded the image while drunk?
Should Mess Nights be restricted to no alcohol or should they punish the Marines that get out of control?

Have you ever heard a civilian say that your sleeves (rolled) made Marines stand out? Have you ever been disgusted by the sleeve tattoos a Marine showed while wearing the uniform?
Should the non-tattooed Marine have to roll their sleeves down, should the sleeve tattoo Marine be separated, or should the Corps just not care what the public thinks about our tattoos?

The idea was presented that the Marine Corps is trying to creating a group that uphold the highest caliber of individual, not just the best fighting force. One rebuttal was that Marines do not have to sacrifice their traditions to become morally fit. The other rebuttal was that the Marine Corp should not be comprised of morally fit individuals, rather it should house ruthless baby eating, alcohol addicted, rage having, killing machines.

So, I pose these question to our Marines, former Marines, and retired Marines: Are the decisions that the Corp is making positive or negative for the Marine Corps' future? Should we keep our less politically correct traditions or loose them to make was for a new Corps?

You can change my title, all day again and again. You can pm me goatse some more. You can PM the word "nigger" and "faggot" over and over again. You can call my parent's house again and again. You can bad mouth me on GiP and SASS. You can name call me all day. You can bring up my posting history on this forum or other forums. You make libelous accusations that I am a pedophile. You can keep doing all of that.

But you are not convincing anyone of your case by turning to the tactics of juveniles. The more you do all of that, the more I know that I have beaten you. That people who think like me and have gotten the same treatment, have all beaten you, and that this is the temper tantrum of a clique that is on the wrong side of history. I'm done with you.
