"data will become the new soil. soil within which our ideas will grow. and data whisperers will become the new messiahs"
#13
this is really excellent, thanks a lot for posting, why bother with any theory when you can imbibe the ideology formation process right at the source. Imbibe
#14
do you think they took the liquid thing from zygmunt bauman
#15
liquid content in liquid modernity
#16
lmao, saying they need to construct a false totality within their brand ideas so they can take on an apparent life of their own, truly, pure, ideology
#17
its only natural that philosophy, marketing, and new age cults would all share the same language

theyre all selling the same thing: transcendence beyond material conditions

Stuff like this shows the historical importance of the Theory fashion which seems so frivolous to many and as impractical as theoretical physics but had an impact: professionals in media and marketing and branding who came out of Ivy League schools in the 80s, having studied Lacan and deMan and Derrida and looking at discourse and TV ads and stuff newly, really understood all this much better than anyone had ever before. Theory really was useless to socialism, but it can sell capitalistic ideology unlike anything else.

People who did PhDs in comparative literature or philosophy, what with jobs in academia vanishing and wanting money anyway, went into advertising, new media and old media, concocting new names for aspirin and creating discourses to naturalize the need for serotonin reuptake inhibitors and other 'new' diseases and syndromes, or working to create the illusion of value for dot com stocks.

The postmodernists really are more sophisticated than their predecessors, schooled in the deft deployment of intertextuality and the loosening of the strong force which holds the sign together and so on. They took all this to a higher level than propaganda had operated on before, created a technology of the spectacle and the virtual which had not existed until then.

Cheers.

i dont think its precisely as simple as that, its more like they were approaching the same thing so end up describing the same things, but they use vastly different terminology because they don't *actually* share much intellectual genealogy really...

my god. a liquid world. streams of black fluid encircling objects, snatching up people, generating textures of sinuous phalluses, erupting in cyclones of libidinal domination. negarestani was wrong. the telluric lube is coca-cola

enoug habout f*cking C oke. how about... PEPSI

Here’s what the 31-year-old entertainer Beyonce had to say on criticism she’s received for working with Pepsi: “Pepsi is a brand I’ve grown up seeing my heroes collaborate with. The company respects musicians and artistry. I wouldn’t encourage any person, especially a child, to live life without balance. When you work out, take care of your body, rehearse as hard as I rehearsed in the commercial, I think it’s great to have a Pepsi or Diet Pepsi when you want one. It’s all about choices.”

but it has got meaning, imo, its just a different jargon to that used by critical theory, describing a lot of the same concepts
