it wont be the smoking that kills me. i will be crushed under an avalanche of books in a poignant but ultimately meaningless metaphor

donno, i read the first 2 pages in an apparently 162 page book and the writing is overdone and corny as hell, not exactly bad but pointlessly imagistic and plodding (imo)

i dumped all my books out of the trash bags they were residing in today and i was like "damn, damn, i have the best library ever. god damn son"

still need to stop reading postwar wankers even if they're good and literary. who needs literary writing??

#138
i was skimmin over steppenwolf again the other day and i was struck by how deleuzian it is, the individual-as-crowd, the hall of mirror-desires, like a lot of that is from nietzsche which both of them borrowed shitloads from but its still p arresting
#139
yea its awesome as hell to know a thing or two about nietzsche. celine occasionally drops nietzsche references in his later books and you're just like "wait, nothing you do at all is anything like nietzsche, you're the opposite of that guy, why are you even saying his name?"

also the "You will have all the girls" chapter is still possibly one of the best sequences of all time. IMHO

lol yeah im starting to think that my literature thing is kinda verging on nerd obsession, its just not approachable by most of the population not because theyre stupid but because theyve got better things to care about....... like i was reading the unnameable and someone asked me what it was about and there is literally no answer to that question

nietzsche owns precisely because you can disagree with him on every point but still love his power and vehemence, celine and nietzsche have nothing in common in terms of their actual thought but they got the same spunk & piss & fury

it is exactly a nerd obsession. occasionally you meet somebody who actually comprehends and cares about all the shit you're reading and you basically fall in love with them. bursting at the seams to share a little bit of that esoteric knowledge... not a good position

that happened to me with molloy. It is a problem.

I just don't know why I'd want to read a book written by someone under 30. People say writing all the time is what matters, and that you get better, but the truth is you just get older and wiser through experience.

Writing is a particularly classical medium which suggests age, seriousness and character. Have you considered animation?

ahe yeh, and where nietzsche dedicates his spunk to pointless self-immolation and self-aggrandizement, celine dedicates his fury to pointless self-preservation and self-deprecation. couldn't find two people further apart

apparently sensitive literary types in the interwar years looked up to harry haller as an embodiment of their aspirations when hesse makes it very clear that he's a myopic idiot lol

its not like you can just wait it out and then start writing once youre in your writing prime. you have to put in your hours

ahaha yeah, well, in any case it was the sensitive literary types who lent all their cultural capital to the fascists, only to be (rightly) disgusted by the time their opinions didn't matter a damn anymore. sensitive literary types are the biggest idiots on the planet and will be for all time. that includes myself, i dont know if you want to join the ride

certum est quia impossibile

i think this is true, but then at the same time a 36 year old will never write the same book that a 22 or even a 27 year old would. most young writers will condemn their work as soon as they mature but that doesn't negate what had earlier been said; it would be worrying if a writer fully endorsed all of his early work at a late age

difference is that lit nerds get an entire masturbatory institution that justifies our pursuit and allows for arguments of pretension that become so heated they furiously bubble our lake of bullshit all the way up the highest ivory towers filled expensive mahogany wood all constructed from grants better spent feeding the mouths of starving illiterate children
