Artificial intelligence - having begun to merge with human intelligence in the previous century - now surpasses it, reaching whole new levels of cognitive and intellectual capability. Though lacking the raw emotions and subtle traits of organic human minds, the sheer depth and power of AI begins to profoundly transform the course of history. High-level decisions by governments and corporations now come directly from these sentient machines. There are vast swathes of virtual employees everywhere, and heavily automated systems in every industry. All of this makes for vastly improved speed, efficiency and productivity.

Superhuman powers are available to common citizenry

The nanotechnology of recent decades has conferred powers to citizens that would be considered superhuman by 21st century standards. These upgraded "transhumans" could perform feats regarded as Godlike to denizens of earlier times.

A suitably upgraded individual - if transported back to the year 2000 - would be impervious to weaponry and nearly impossible to contain. They could morph their body into a seemingly infinite variety of forms depending on the situation encountered.*

If trapped in a maximum security prison, for instance, they could alter their own molecular structure, allowing them to walk through walls.* They could broadcast electromagnetic pulse waves to disable electronic devices, vehicles and other objects. Bullets and other projectiles would pass through them with no effect. Microscopic cameras, distributed throughout their body, would function as an all-round 360° sensor - covering the entire electromagnetic spectrum and making it impossible for an attacker to surprise them.

it feels much less satisfying to mock the people writing this shit now i know they're 11 years old
#7
just as the katana is a far superior weapon to the scottish broadsword so too will the transhuman of the 26th century be a much deadlier and effective force able to neutralize any threat conceivable to the 21st century mind
#8
when i see things like this, i wonder the same thing i do when i read people writing war scenarios: what video game is responsible for this?

modern science proves that reincarnation is a fact. Improvements in computer science allow scientists to scientifically assist individuals in remembering their past history in absolute, unfaltering detail.

2050

Modern instance of ancient spartan king cleomenes iii discovered; within two years of gaining access to his past memories, cleomenes uses science to invent the science-spear, which he uses alongside other awakened modern ancient greeks to overthrow the american democracy and instate an aristocratic regime.

2065

While spartamerican government continues to scan the population to reawaken the soul of lykourgos and discover the ultimate constitution, disaster occurs. An ancient chinese legalist shang yang is made aware of his own identity, and escapes to some rural back water part of china where he starts a totalitarian revolution against the local harmost.

2080

After fifteen years of continual warfare, the battle of Sparta, Indiana takes place between the reincarnated souls of leonidas and xerxes. Deeply conservative modern ancient chinese are thoroughly defeated after realizing that their general was once a nine foot tall hairless exotic dancer with countless piercings.

Forums poster lykourgos discovered and reawakened in lieu of real lykourgos. This post receives in excess of five million upvotes and the internet crashes, catapulting everyone back into the glorious fifth century bc

Religion is fading from European culture

In some European nations, the number of people considering themselves to be non-religious has increased from around 30% in 1980, to over 90% now.*

Although large numbers of Muslims populate the continent, a substantial portion are now only "culturally" Muslim, rather than having a literal interpretation of the Koran. Mainstream Islam has begun a reformation and modernisation in recent years - aided by vast improvements in education, combined with the broad homogenisation of culture resulting from globalisation, the Internet, various international agreements and other factors.

Medical advances are undermining religion as a whole, by greatly diminishing the fear of death, while developments in AI, robotics and biotechnology are beginning to trivialise the miracles on which many ancient religions are based. The increasing presence of androids in society - along with other forms of sentience - is adding a whole new dimension to the way humans view themselves and their place in the Universe. The ability to communicate with certain artifically enhanced animals (such as dolphins, monkeys and domestic pets) is also contributing to this trend.

Spirituality continues to play a role in European cultures - but is now based more on nature and physical reality, rather than myths, dogma or supernatural forces.

The USA still lags far behind Europe in terms of atheistic belief, however. It will be another century before America reaches the same level; even longer for certain parts of Asia. Even then, a small percentage of citizens will continue to worship a God (or Gods), well into the next millenium. These people will tend to be those who reject science and technology, or have purposefully chosen to isolate themselves from the rest of the world.

i wanna live in the postmodern enclave of the future that rejects science and only ironically uses technology

you'll be happy to know that technology more often exists without administrative specialists (i.e. scientists) analyzing it (i.e. science) than with it

Elimination of all natural sciences. If anybody ought to go to the extermination chambers definitely scientists, yes I’m definitely anti-scientist because I feel that science represents a conspiracy to impose as, the real and only universe, the Universe of scientists themselves - they’re reality-addicts, they’ve got to have things so real so they can get their hands on it.

No job too dirty for the fucking scientists.

here's my futurology guesses. falling energy supply, deteriorating soil and water conditions, and climate change fuck up global agriculture for decades and billions of humans die in the ensuing resource wars. almost all the cool species go extinct or have wild populations eradicated; speculative poaching comes into fashion. humans waste the last of the oil worth extracting on fighting these final world wars, and a drastically reduced population is left to eke out a miserable existence on a poisoned, scorched rock without easy availability of many metal and polymer materials, cursing daily the assholes (us) who did this to them

havent seen the first, the second one i enjoyed but i dont think it was very good like objectively. i liked it because i like the genre

#27
oh wait yeah i watched public enemy. that shit is terrible
#28
mesrine: killer instinct and mesrine: public enemy #1 are the two parts of the jacques mesrine biopic. in real life, mesrine robbed a lot of banks and broke out of jail a lot of times, and he does it in the movie too. the end

ps

2880 AD

The asteroid 1950 DA is passing very close to the Earth, possibly on a collision course
This kilometre-sized asteroid was first discovered in 1950. It was observed for 17 days, then lost until 2000 due to uncertainties in the orbit. In 2001, new radar and optical measurements confirmed a mean diameter of 1.1 km with a very fast rotation period (2 hours), an orbital velocity of 21.3 km/s and a dense composition of nickel-iron.

It was also found to have a potentially very close approach to the Earth, on 16th March 2880. Scientists estimated a 1 in 300 chance that the asteroid would strike the planet on this date - the highest probability of any known asteroid at the time. Were such an impact to occur, it would be catastrophic to civilization, given the size and velocity of 1950 DA. If landing in the ocean, coastlines would be hit by 200 ft tsunamis, running inland over 4 km. There would be major effects on the climate and biosphere.

However, technology is so advanced by 2880 that the asteroid can easily be moved to a safe orbit, if required.

i think the important thing to realize about the future is that even though lip service may be paid to overpopulation/dwindling resources/environmental catastrophe, history will march on in the form of consumer electronics innovation

the mesrine films own

yall should watch bronson, its about violence in the absence of the Will

haha humanity wont be eliminated, just a huge proportion of it and statistically mancave dwelling nerds with too many opinions and not enouhg life skills will probably be among the first to go
