transhumanism is cool, OP.

all we really need to ascend above our mortal flesh is just some technique to flawlessly trick the immune system into accepting certain foreign objects. perhaps some coating or some drug. perhaps the expression of one gene or another. that's all it would take to begin in force. a way to translate nerve impulses into machine directions would expand it. ascension is at hand, imo.

transhumanism/singularity theory is useful because it means you dont have to explain how class works, you can just posit that there will be a bunch of nano-aug superpeople who live on the internet and can do whatever they want, and then everyone else maintaining the technology that lets them do this. the hard part then is convincing your interlocutor that they will be in the latter group and not the former, but its a start imo

also accelerationism ftw obviously
#14
posthumanism is interesting too as its basically rumination on what we would do if our aging genes were turned off (besides creating a market for counter-therapies to gene entropy and random dna mutation)
#15
whats the difference between transhumanism and posthumanism
#16
transhumanism is basically mid-90s tech/internet/computer optimism turned pseudo-cult. they have their own institute and one of my profs even tho he thinks its bullshit is technically on some panel or lends his good name to them or something and i lost a bit of respect when i heard that. also the singularity is not real.

it really is easy pickings, like beating up on Ron Paulites or Bitcoin lovers.

it's not even that, it's just Heaven marketed to a different demographic.

#19
i guess it is rooted in california computer hippies circa 1970whenever but you can see the reasoning behind singularity thinking, in the sense it imagines a world transformed by automation technology to the extent that life on either side of the apex is incomprehensible to those on the other. quite why they think this describes 'using the internet to look at porn' rather than the industrial revolution or slavery or empire is beyond me though

the only reason singularitarianism isn't a religion is because they don't call it that. for those that don't know, the "singularity" refers to a mathematical singularity, the point in which the rate of technological development becomes infinite. if you wonder how technological development becomes infinite in a setting with finite time and resources congratulations you have thought about this more than nerds
