the drinking culture in australia
i think this is the part that would get me. from what i can tell from visiting australians it is really unhealthy and bingey and obnoxious
i went out drinking in Hollywood in February (i'd been told it was a sleaze pit) and was absolutely astonished by how well-behaved, sociable and respectful everyone was: from patrons to cops to bouncers and bartenders

it is so much better than waking up with memories of terrible nightmares tho
I Have a Prescription For Uppers I Probably Shouldn’t Now
Nightmares aren’t a problem if you don’t sleep

You’re right though about the sleep. I didn’t have those nightmares too much but when I quit: boy howdy was it strange having vivid dreams again
I also get sleep paralysis/terrors a bit but if you ride the wave it can be fun and enriching

i know this guy who really annoyingly makes people working at convenience stores or restaurants who are immigrants tell him their "real" name, like he goes out of his way to be like "hey what's your name? tyler? nah man tell me your real name u know" and they say whatever their non americanized first name is and he goes "ah ha see there ya go" or whatever but doesnt say it back to them bc he cant pronounce it. he thinks hes being sociable and egalitarian or something

I have a wonderful wife and soon I'll be a professor and get paid 6 figures starting out to do whatever research I want to (within orthodox economics). Six years after that I'll hopefully have tenure and I can really do and teach whatever I feel like and make a king's ransom. Just imagine how many pairs of jeans I could donate to lf. Designer pants beyond reckoning.
lmao you think tenure will be around in 6 years. I'm calling out your bullshit story
what are you on about khamzek. tenure is around 6 years. assistant professors are appointed to two three year terms after which they need to get tenure or wash out. although they can apply for a clock stoppage for a year to put it on hold. source: my JOB
actually adjuncts arent even relaly considered part of the faculty and get paid less than the GRAs lol
they sound inane and cost ridiculous amounts of money
They're famous within their academic clique. Additionally they treasure the power and hierarchy they have over teachers assistants and staff.
Picture this in your mind- imagine if you could post everything you're posting now, but it will get published in reputable academic journals, people will sit and listen to you at conferences, and you can force your students to read it and give glowing reviews. Wouldn't anyone like that?

THAT SOUNDS REALLY FUCKING EMBARRASSING ACTUALLY
lol @ the idiotic reactionary idea of people making some rational economic choice to do essentially the same job as tenure-track faculty but for less money with zero research support and zero job security
those who can't teach, learn

yeah idk how anyone expects this to happen even now. the adjunct thing is too seductive for all the businesspeople who run educational institutions now. why would you ever want tenured employees? sorry, education is ruined forever. it's cool to read about how it used to be though
