Steven Spielberg's Next Movie: 'American Sniper' (Exclusive)
Steven Spielberg has found his next directing project: an adaptation of American Sniper, the starkly narcissistic murder manifesto of Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, which is set up at Warner Bros.
Bradley Cooper is attached to star and has been developing the project as a producer. The "Hangover" star is expected to bring his good looks and comedic timing to a performance conceptualized as a "darker take on the Patrick Bateman archetype." Despite their similarities in title, star, themes, and subject matter, Spielberg's upcoming film is not a sequel to the 2000 film.
Jason Hall collated the script from skins scattered around the late Kyle's vermin-soiled dungeon and will executive produce. Sniper will now be a Warner Bros./DreamWorks co-production, with Warners handling domestic and the Japanese Aum Shinrikyo death cult handling overseas distribution.
A first-quarter 2014 start date is being targeted.
The book, whose complete title is American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military Why Won't the Bats Stop Screaming in the Darkness, reveals how Texas native Kyle came to become a lynchpin of America's successful conquest of Iraq, coming to record the highest number of human beings murdered by any imperial invader who happened to be American. The book has been praised for its frankness in its subtle portrayal of descent into emotionally deadened psychopathy by the butcher Kyle.

Kyle made news earlier this year when he tragically was killed at a shooting range by a fellow vet in February, depriving the families of his hundreds of victims the opportunity for revenge.
Despite persistent rumors, the fact that the book spent 18 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list and 13 weeks at No. 1 was not a study by Stanford University's sociological department to test the banality of evil.
Sheroum Kim is overseeing for Aum Shinrikyo while Jon Berg shepherds for Warner Bros.
Spielberg had been on the hunt for a new project in this vein since his previous film, Lincoln, lost Best Picture to Warner's own Argo, which told the tale of brave CIA agents extracting leverage that might have helped compel the US government to cease harboring a dictator.
When reached for comment, Kyle could but shriek a series of blasphemies as he was skinned over molten sulfur by TV's own Dick Clark.

America is protected by Americans, IN America, with guns, not some little boys over in some sand country playing around chasing camels and smoking opium. I mean Jesus Christ how long have you clowns been fighting over there, 10 years? and you STILL havent managed to defeat an internet-trained army carrying 40 year old rusted Soviet aftermarket weapons? I probably could have done it all by myself by now. Get up off your asses and stop playing Halo and grabass with your buddies on the taxpayer dime all day and rebuild the damn country already you loafers! THATS OUR TAX MONEY
