i think this is a symptom of sex-negativity in that the actual content, value and mutual pleasure of an experience, sex between partners who know and enjoy what they're doing and understand what they want as opposed to what they're supposed to want, is totally devalued in the place of fetishized spectacle. that's where your third-wave "sex positivity" falls down imo, in that being open and celebratory about the crazy sex you're having, being transgressive for its own sake just plays into prescriptions of fake masculinized fantasy. like if you really want to be sex-positive you need to be equally open and celebratory about your sex being crap and conservative as well, about the fact you get bored after a while and want to read or check Facebook, or just about the fact you want to keep it private and it isn't for public consumption, it's just one aspect of your life and it's often a really unimportant one. i see what you're saying here and i fucking hate the third wave for this but it's important to recognize that the sex positivism you speak of emerged from a need to imitate male behaviors about and around sex and that for women to feel equal they felt they needed to consume and have as much access to sex as men are entitled to in this world. it has accomplished nothing for us as a sex class, imo. i'm 100% with you on waiting for the day that sex is kinda blah but the reality is that it's still used by half of the population to exert physical and financial power over the other and for the time being that will remain my issue of emergency. everyone who has the blessing of being able to contemplate their sex lives outside of that context could and should do so.
