This reminds me of a couple of things.

1. Women on Jezebel talking about guys taking the slightests act of kindness as a sign of flirtation and following them around trying to pick them up.

2. A cracked writer talking about the best part of being married was that he no longer responded to every meeting with a woman he found even slightly attractive by hoping (however faintly) that she would sleep with him.

The thing is, I can relate to the men in both those scenarios, as well as the ones responding to the profile in the article. I'm male, and feminist, and pretty much the opposite of macho for my whole life, but I still feel and felt that overwhelming pressure to have sex and relationships. Even when I knew that it wasn't that important, that other things in life mattered much more, I still felt like a massive failure as a human being for not being able to manage it. I felt worthless and ashamed and even suicidal. I am so glad that PUA and incel and the like didn't arrive till I was starting to get past those feelings (though I still fall prey to them often).

I guess that's my privilege as a straight man: I can look at these guys with compassion. I will never have dudes harrassing me constantly, so I can see these guys as so incredibly desperate and lonely that they are willing to have nonsensical conversations in the faintest hope of getting some attention. It's easy for me to see them not as predators and creeps, but as victims of patriarchy in their own right. I suppose those things aren't mutually exclusive though.
