LYRICS:

But the rocket has to be many things, it must answer to a number of different shapes in the dreams of those who touch it – in combat, in tunnel, on paper – it must survive heresies shining, unconfoundable . . . and heretics there will be: Gnostics who have been taken in a rush of wind and fire to chambers of the Rocket-throne . . . Kabbalists who study the Rocket as Torah, letter by letter – rivets, burner cup and brass rose, its text is theirs to permute and combine into new revelations, always unfolding . . . Manicheans who see two Rockets, good and evil, who speak together in the sacred idiolalia of the Primal Twins (some say their names are Enzian and Blicero) of a good Rocket to take us to the stars, an evil Rocket for the World’s suicide, the two perpetually in struggle.

protip for the valenteens: if your song sounds exactly the same the whole way through it probably shouldnt be more than 5 minutes long.

la monte young says 'hi'

ignore that killedinaduel post. people that only hear 'nothing is' as 5 seconds on loop are people that dont have the ear to appreciate my bloody valentine, a band that is so much better than all other bands that it seems audacious that other groups consider themselves "bands" and think they make "music" like mbv does. haha i laugh at myself when i think about how i listened to other stuff in the last 20 years and how watered down and lame it was by comparison.

hi, lamonte young, i'm a big fan. i have the well-tuned piano and.. .well, that's it really. this sounds like a good piece tho:

"Bring a bale of hay and a bucket of water onto the stage for the piano to eat and drink. The performer may then feed the piano or leave it to eat by itself. If the former, the piece is over when the piano has been fed. If the latter, it is over after the piano eats or decides not to." - Piano Piece for David Tudor #1

Hey, was wondering, is john cage as boring irl as his music? guy's almost as boring as... get this.. as... *snicker*... the bloody valenteens!

(S)ometimes you get the real thing, as with James Joyce's Finnegans Wake. Like Chinese Democracy and Vineland, Finnegans Wake took 17 years, as everybody wondered how Joyce could follow a masterpiece like Ulysses. The Wake inspired a book of critical essays before it even came out, based on the "Work in Progress" fragments he published in lit mags. But when the Wake arrived, the long wait was forgotten, because it turned out to be another masterpiece that gave everyone more interesting problems. And now MBV is the new My Bloody Valentine masterpiece, ever since it arrived on February 2nd, which happens to be the same date Joyce published Ulysses in 1922, on his birthday. He was hoping to release Finnegans Wake on February 2nd as well, but it took him a few more months.

When it is jokingly suggested that, had Shields released m b v in 1994, as initially planned, he could have kiboshed Britpop, his mood changes. "Britpop was massively pushed by the government," he says. "Someday it would be interesting to read all the MI5 files on Britpop. The wool was pulled right over everyone's eyes there."

"There are sinister forces at work," he adds. "Our freedom is diminishing. The rightwing is creeping in like water. That's got to stop." Then, zipping his cagoule purposefully, this sonic sorcerer and eccentric sweetheart issues a parting shot.

"Personally," he smiles. "I intend to react to it most disrespectfully."

that sounds like it's straight out of that pynchon novel

i wonder if Shields knows about the CIA funding modern art.
