What you see there is 11 separate pieces. They're made of wood and Elmer's Glue and are quite sturdy as long as they aren't flexed. You can see the seams between them in some places, that are missing long files of streets. Unfortunately I can't attach the pieces to each other until I have Queens, Manhattan, The Bronx constructed in the same way. Otherwise a small error in one place might magnify across the breadth of the map. That's why I'm doing Staten Island next because I can fully assemble it independently of the other boroughs.

Michael De Zayas, thirty-eight, bought an apartment just off Franklin Avenue in 2012 and, shortly after, opened a Parisian-style café on Franklin, Little Zelda, named after his sixteen-month old daughter.
“One of the inspirations for me,” says De Zayas, “was that I love to read the newspaper and have a baguette every morning, and you couldn’t do that here before.”
De Zayas, who holds an MFA in poetry from Sarah Lawrence College
