Yow! Now thats-a spicy crackdown!

This is what a wooden bullet wound looks like. Photos of the injuries sustained by Willow Rosenthal after Oakland Police fired on her and other protesters at the Oakland port in 2003.

my favorite police brutality related quote was this

It is unfortunate that some protesters chose to obstruct the police by linking arms and forming a human chain to prevent the police from gaining access to the tents. This is not non-violent civil disobedience. By contrast, some of the protesters chose to be arrested peacefully; they were told to leave their tents, informed that they would be arrested if they did not, and indicated their intention to be arrested. They did not resist arrest or try physically to obstruct the police officers’ efforts to remove the tent. These protesters were acting in the tradition of peaceful civil disobedience, and we honor them.

Standing nearby, Bruce Cronin, 52, a professor at the City University of New York pointed to the officers manning the metal barricades that blocked the way to Walls Street.

“The police are doing the protesters’ job for them,” he said. “They are becoming allies.”

Behind him protesters unfurled a long banner that read “Banks steal homes.”And a moment later, the police officers Mr. Cronin indicated, moved from behind the metal barricades and began wading through the crowd, shoving people with batons and toppling some protesters and news photographers.

Police were startled by what they say was a decrepit visage barreling toward them with unhuman speed and swiftness.

"We saw what looked to be some type of reanimated corpse, with old wrinkled skin barely hanging off the bones - indicative of a class ii zombie. Me and the boys have seen this countless times: the communists use their voodoo to bring the dead back to life. These undead can be clearly identified by their mindless droning chant about 'what democracy looks like' as they clang their chains onto pots and pans. We were left with no other recourse than to spray the foul demon with positive-ectoplasm and send its soul back to the depths of hell" said sergeant Plorpy, of the ghostbuster division, NYPD.

Mistahfab was also reached for comment regarding his participation in the summoning of ghosts from the aether, to drive buses and cars through the oakland OWS protests in an attempt to terrorize hard working Americans into subjugation, however he did not respond.

retired New York Supreme Court Judge Karen Smith, who worked as a legal observer Tuesday morning in New York after the police raided the Occupy Wall Street encampment. "I was there to take down the names of people who were arrested... As I’m standing there, some African-American woman goes up to a police officer and says, 'I need to get in. My daughter's there. I want to know if she’s OK.’ And he said, 'Move on, lady.' And they kept pushing with their sticks, pushing back. And she was crying. And all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he throws her to the ground and starts hitting her in the head," says Smith. "I walk over, and I say, 'Look, cuff her if she's done something, but you don’t need to do that.’ And he said, 'Lady, do you want to get arrested?' And I said, 'Do you see my hat? I'm here as a legal observer.’ He said, 'You want to get arrested?' And he pushed me up against the wall."

yelling "scum" would probably be more effective than yelling "shame"
you've already gotta be a shameless person to join the police, but no one wants to think of themselves as human scum.

The system gave them way to much credit to warrant a crack down I think. Camping out on a concrete slab is not the most sustainable way to run a community. It can't be done on a long term basis - winter would indeed have ended it in most cities. The media could have easily turned it into even more of a a mockery as more statistically insignificant and irrelevant events happened near the encampments (People shitting on the sidewalk in New York? Well I never!).

Instead - they martyred it. And in doing so, they've successfully radicalized every single participant more effectively and efficiently than any Marxist lecturer or lfer could ever dream of. All of these people, who are mostly young and unemployed, are going to be employed and working somewhere within the system in the next forty years - long after the worms consume the politicians that are currently suppressing their voice.

We knew this would happen, but we should realize that there will be some consequences which I'd consider as a net-gain. OWS has proven to be an expensive problem for capital, and will continue to be as all these efficiently radicalized youth find their place in the world.
