McRib sandwich next on Wall Street’s menu at McDonald’s

Wall Street is looking toward the launch of the McRib sandwich to grease year-end results for McDonald’s Corp. MCD -0.06% after the fast food giant beat its November sales results,
sending shares of the fast food giant up handily on Monday.

“We are cautiously optimistic,” said analysts at Sterne Agee & Leach Equity Research. “MCD will be advertising its successful McRib product offering in December. Looking beyond the quarter, we believe that the company will continue to add to its premium sandwich offerings while highlighting value in much of its advertising.”

Even with the McRib, Sterne Agee analysts said they’re taking a conservative forecast for a drop of 1.1% in same-store sales for McDonald’s in December in the face of a challenging economy.

Despite these and other clouds on the horizon, McDonald’s shares on Monday delivered a healthy rise of 1.1% — good enough to land the stock near the top of the gainers column among the 30 components of the Dow Jones Industrial Average $DJ +0.11% .
