took part in a research study today to make some money before moving. it was an fMRI study where i played a baby game sorting different shapes onto a conveyor belt depending on their patterns and color while they measured my animal magnetism. the pattern of where to sort each shape was really clear after a couple minutes, so i sorted everything wrong on purpose (90 minutes of sorting). during the interview after, the grad student working said 'you did soooooo great at the beginning buddy, what happened during the rest of the study!?!!'. i explained that sorting correctly or incorrectly showed the same 'cognitive function' according to their method and he said 'i didnt think of that' and then i noticed that his binder was open to sheet music for home home on the range 'for acoustic guitar'

lol

this makes sense though imo, you still had to do the same cognitive work to know how to sort them wrong as to sort the right. i think similar studies i've heard of find that lower cognitive effort is correlated with higher test scores.

not that i think this is an especially useful thing to study, or that it will have any new result. it's just working as designed.

I’ve been biking a fuckton, relatively, cus before 3 weeks ago I didn’t own a bike. I think I’m gonna invest some more money in it, I wanna get street tires to replace the mountain ones and also other accessories like a light and mirror so I don’t die. I recommend biking, it’s fun and easy workout plus u get to feel superior to slow pedestrians, although it sux when they’re idiots and step out right in front of you. I’m used to yelling at people in my car so i yelled at this guy without realizing he could actually hear me, felt good honestly, u can say whatever you want they don’t have wheels for legs, ergo you have the advantage of a fast getaway.

contrarty to bourgeois metaphysics which holds that one must either never yell or constantly be yelling at pedestrians, dialectical materialism holds that the decision of whether to yell or not yell at pedestrians can only be made on the basis of an investigation of all relevant conditions, indeed it is impossible to yell at a pedestrian without first studying and summing up the whole history of yelling throughout succeeding iterations of class society.

That's ok. the only person i regularly talk to about politics is my radlib brother-in-law, the main benefit being that i learn how to good-faith argue against his newfound class position as a technocratic labor aristocrat who works for a company that sells payment processing technology to banks who want to cut down the amount of people they have to hire.

my day at the usda

i had to go to the usda offices this morning to have some documents notified before moving. full body x-ray, tsa x-ray conveyor belt for bags, questions about my appointments (getting my cats pet passports lol), etc... the office was a 35 minute walk along the freeway from the last train stop and sat behind a massive parking lot with a man-made lake behind it. from the outside, it was just an ugly building with a lot of ford focuses in the parking lot. once past security, we waited in a small lounge room off of a hallway. i had to piss, so i walked down the hall to find a bathroom. in every single office, on every single new wall angle, and in the waiting room were large, framed, low resolution photos of trump and pence. once i turned the corner toward the bathroom, i saw a water fountain so i knew i was getting close. however, when i got to the fountain, there were printed documents that read "DO NOT DRINK WATER until further notice" which at first was funny, considering its the usda office and they haven't got clean drinking water. in the bathroom, on ever stall door, above every urinal, and over every sink was the same sign. i don't have a smartphone, but wanted to take some pictures, so i went back to the waiting room to use my girlfriend's phone camera. i went back down the hall, past the trumps and pences, up to the water fountains, snapped a picture and went into the bathroom for more pictures.

about six seconds later, an armed security officer with a gun on one hip, a taser on the other, and a bullet-proof vest barged in (as i was pissing), stood over me and demanded that i "immediately wipe my phone memory and show him that the pictures were deleted". i apologized and explained that there weren't any signs about photos, and that i would delete the pictures when i was back in the waiting room because the phone password had locked at that point. he was barking at me while i was still pissing, and he kept repeating "i don't care who's phone it is, delete the pictures now! now!". i showed him it was locked and i was escorted to the lobby where he forced my girlfriend to delete everything. she did, and he said "where are they?!?!! where are they!?! huh?!"..............................................

however i managed to send this to myself before he got there

computer, ctrl+p please

I hate that I’m essentially too sensitive to work customer service. It’s not the generic assholes that get to me, it’s the people (mostly middle-aged women) who smell some sort of weakness in me and decide to be cruel when I have 0 recourse. No amount of “it’s not me, it’s them” can prevent this from ruining my day. Pointless post I just wanted to bitch

one time i was working at a hotel as an extra hand and they had me going back and forth between washing dishes and waiting tables (which i don't like) and some guy said he didn't like his food and i said "oh well." luckily for me they really needed people because this was in the middle of nowhere, and also luckily for me i didn't have to wait tables any more! (this was in europe, so no tips anyway, nothing lost)
