I think the way most film portrays revolution is obviously very moronic because most of it is getting produced by CIA or hollywood guys that only know AmeriKKKan pornoculture, but Che: Part One by Steven Sonderbergh was pretty good. will watch part 2 sometime this week

yeah, i mean it apparently got a standing ovation when they showed in the big Havanan theatre, so it's pretty good. be prepared though, the second one is kind of a bummer, but i mean, if you know your history you'll know why.

supposedly both the director and del toro wanted to do a movie bout guevara being in the congo, but the movie didn't do well enough or what-have-you.

watched Z by costas-gavras.. very cool political thriller with a nice depiction of how the state and reactionary groups can collude to suppress leftists. also there's a cool hot headed guy in it who immediately starts insisting that the cia is responsible whenever anything bad happens which i found endearing

Was scouring online for a full length version of Inside North Vietnam, a documentary from 1967 by Felix Greene, a British journalist sent there by the SF Chronicle. I remember reading that after it was finished, it was withheld from broadcast for being "communist propaganda" or whatever. Without any luck finding a copy online, I contacted the UK distributor of the film, and got them to upload a 1 hour version (I've read the full length is approx 96 minutes) to Vimeo. It's an excellent film, for the footage alone.

i watched more videos of the explosion in Beirut in 2020. It’s real nightmare shit btw if you haven’t seen it yet. 35 seconds before the big explosion there was a smaller one, so most of the people capturing video see what’s happening as an event far away from them & safe to observe. Then a ten-stories-tall fireball erupts and suddenly a gigantic white condensation cloud expands outward and upward, obscuring the view of entire blocks around the fire and towering over the city. Then, the shockwave hits and shatters every window and strips the cladding off buildings. Anyway directly or indirectly the Zionist entity was responsible

strange, i used this exact example today to capture young minds with the importance of learning that "acid + base -> salt + water", the knowledge of which will come in very useful for all of them in the future i am sure, along with knowing that metal + acid -> salt + hydrogen.

I watched Red Dawn for kicks the other day. while it's one thing to watch that Parenti lecture about the "swarthy hordes" and its impact as a propaganda tool, it's different to see all of its overt racism with your own eyes. it also made me realize something: the themes embodied in classic "American Westerns" are basically templates for white supremacist film making in general. Rugged scenery, stupid cartoony paternalism and misogyny, coming of age subplot (if not the main plot of this story), isolation, insurmountable odds, brown people "murdering" white townsfolk in a town, etc. The movie itself isn't even about the guerrilla war really - scenes from the movie are directly based off of popular portrayals of Vietnam War engagements, but turns the sides around. The communists commit the killings and it's the patriotic kids from Colorado protecting their country with ambushes, again to serve that scruffy underdog vibe. besides all the political bullshit it was pretty bad too, all characters super forgettable despite obviously being a character-driven movie with way too few action scenes. although I will say the setting was really nice and the actual props and costumes were well-produced, as expected for a movie that was meant to be blockbuster bait.
