can’t wait till Communism wins by telling everyone Christmas is cancelled, so I’ve been thinking up some cool names for new months of the year, “Awesomesauce”, “Thissery”, etc. Epic Black Hole Day will be the 5th of Goldenmanbaby

Reminds me of the French Republican Calendar, toyot. I like the thought of adding more holidays as productivity increases. but there is no reason to piss off the world's major religions by neil-degrasse-tyson-ing the holidays
#9284
instead piss off the world's major religions by suppressing their fraternal organizations, exiling their clergy to italy, & seizing their estates. happy antijesuit day

no wait i think i got that backwards, it's the feast day off the guy who lead the jesuits during their reestablishment, whatever

I went for a long walk in a big nature park today so the vulgarity of architecture was thankfully not a problem. Although the ecosystems present in the park are almost all fire dependent, so they're managed through human-initiated burns, and probably had been human managed for some time before the arrival of Europeans to this continent. But parts of it had also been pasture land for Europeans raising cows, then abandoned for a while, growing into a totally different type of ecosystem than it was before it was a pasture naturally. Then humans came back to it to burn and plant it back into what it was prior. The whole thing is really more vulgar than the city if you think about it from that point of view. Personally, I'm not a misanthrope so I just enjoyed my walk instead.

Some advantages to the Staggered Christmases method:
1. Spreading out Christmas-related purchasing dampens seasonal loading and unloading of the economy - "vibration" in the economic machine
2. Christmas at higher latitudes can happen earlier in the year, making travel safer
3. True christmas heads can tour with Christmas as it visits different regions
4. More plausible Santa = more satisfied children
5. Christmas lights and decorations - and Secret Santa as well - can be administrated at regional and national levels, beyond the aspirations of any capitalist Christmas industry
6. For most people, it would be a chance to finally disassociate Christmas, which is cool, from the Jesus Christ fable, which is cringe and makes no sense in the context of the Santa story.

I've been doing a lot of reading on getting a ThinkPad because I really need another computer, anyone here got any hookups? Can't find anything online corresponding to the prices the up-to-date buying guides are telling me. Don't want to spend any more than $250.

is this the guide you're using? it's the one i'd recommend. i get all my thinkpads off ebay and it's worked out for me, just be careful not to get one with a locked bios, make sure the seller has good ratings, read the listing and make sure it sounds legit, etc https://www.bobble.tech/free-stuff/used-thinkpad-buyers-guide

in a normal year id recommend waiting until move-out day at the nearest university & hit up the dumpsters at the residential dorms but not sure if there'll be good pickings this particular semester

don't think you can go above x23x or t43x if you plan to coreboot/libreboot. check craigslist, those are easier to find in budget than more recent gen and also the last ones designed with all parts user serviceable. you can upgrade to ssd and 16ram, i cant imagine actual productive work you would need any more power for. usb3 only comes default in 3rd gen i think, but you can get cheap express card.

there is the question about whether this is still advisable considering the meltdown/spectre exploits, afaik it's a bit of a mystery what exactly resides in that section of the firmware and coreboot/libreboot just takes out as much of it as it possibly can without trashing the computer

#9304
not really advising, depends on your threatmodel i guess. for many it can also just be good practice to tinker with stuff at that level to understand somewhat better the colonized stacks we build on and take for granted.

im not sure this analyst dude i just started seeing is really for me. i dont want to like be complacent for too long again and end up not making progress. hes got this insanely black adn white way of seeing things, as evidenced by being into all this psycho pedo hunter dateline nbc bs, so every time i get on teh phone i have to deal wtih him posing questions he thinks are Good to try and undermine me like 'how do you choose who to trust?' 'how do you know any pf this internet stuff is even real?' from some guy with a boomer like understanding and an extremely rigid sense of morality. i dont need someone trying to be 'helpful' and redpill me on why everyone on the intenret is a psycho deceptive abuser and instead gaslighting me into not trusting my friends unintentionally. or maybe even intentionally idk. i wont ever log off, which is what i imagine hed like to see. i kind of just play it up and pretend im teh hacker known as 4chan or whatever to counteract his weird paternalistic skepticism

well let me tell you: its teh last model with the old-style keyboard (at least in that form factor, there is also the t420 if you want something a bit bigger, in terms of everything else the t420 and x220 are basically the same machine) and with linux still makes a good web browsing computer and can even do a bit of (extremely) light gaming. i used it to play ffxi a few years back, granted the temps consistently ran at 90+ which wasn't fantastic but it did work

#9311
sorry for triple post but if you think i'm exaggerating he's a big fan of this guy https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Vachss

so a criminologist who sees solving the problem of abuse as a literal battle between good and evil? no thanks. i should stop letting my "friend" pick my analysts, in my more paranoid moments i feel pretty sure this dude is trying to set me up with a cop intentionally. my analyst actually contracts out with the military to do therapy for forensic analysts btw

i agree with this, the thing i'm complaining about here is moreso the black and white thinking in regards to the internet issue.. makes it hard to be comfortable and like i'm at the very least going to have to do a lot of work to explain my pov successfully i guess. idk whatever maybe ill stick it out longer
