i need to sleep badly.. haha. im very tired. just waiting to be able to. soon i hope. cant be much longer at this point

Screen use is bad for getting to sleep. Put the phone on airplane mode and turn the computer off, then read a book for 20 minutes, or even listen to a podcast with the sleep timer on.

Sometimes when i feel like im going to have a hard time going to sleep i put on an audiobook of "the hobbit"

when I'm between gigs and/or working from home it's real easy to slide into a neet-like routineless lifestyle that is extremely bad for you and makes healthy sleep impossible, so I feel at least a bit of what you're going through wrt sleep GUSSR.

a lot of people will suggest building a routine to aid in sleep and while it is totally correct advice it can be difficult to follow through when you've got nothing going on. one thing I'll suggest is to try to pin your routine to the activities of other people who have better schedules, you mentioned you have roommates? I don't know if this would actually work with your living situation, but try being up and about to make coffee when they're getting going for work in the morning, and if you can cook make a meal for the household when they get home (eating with others is also a nice way to wean off of bad food habits.) even just having those two points of activity to center your day around can go a long way towards encouraging a Regular Human Life of being active during the day and resting at night.

when a person is unwell it can be so difficult to get together the motivation for basic self care, but sometimes you can cheat that by caring for others and then just kind of accidentally helping yourself out too as a byblow.

speaking of sleeping wrong I must have pinched a nerve overnight and my entire left side has seized up such that I can barely walk, in so much pain that I'm making sincere realposts, send help,

the Fear doesn't seem to have kicked in yet in my corner of the snakes. the soup aisle at the supermarket is looking thinner than usual, but not much else out of the ordinary. keep in mind though this is still fairly early on in the actual recorded outbreak and whatever data there is is just a snapshot of the past, so it will get worse before it gets better. there are (mentally) sick criminals running this country who just care about the stock market. flight attendants union should strike and refuse to fly. it wouldn't surprise me if china, by quarantining early, comes out looking better after this is all said and done with.

rip in piece to those immunocompromised or just unlucky who will die because a tiny non living ball of rna in a protein shell is using their ribosomes to copy itself billions and billions of times inside their lungs resulting in serious and sometimes fatal alveolar damage both due to the viral induced cell death but also due to the severity of the immune response
#8809
infectious diseases such as this one require a aggressive all out response which a capitalist system is not equipped to provide; the spread and the severity of this disease is directly in the hands of the ruling class

declare a 3 week holiday for all but essential workers and close all schools, tell everyone to stay inside as much as possible, deliver food to people directly, make sure essential workers and the general public have adequate ppe, pay especial attention to the care of the elderly, hey presto the virus is gone, jfc put me in charge

the united states response to this disease is a crime against humanity and it will be only luck if the US has fewer dead bodies than China had total reportable cases.

criminals:

But the illnesses and deaths that come from COVID-19 is not the worry of the strategists of capital. They are only concerned with damage to stock markets, profits and the capitalist economy. Indeed, I have heard it argued in the executive suites of finance capital that if lots of old, unproductive people die off, that could boost productivity because the young and productive will survive in greater numbers!

strong agree that one of the motivators of american inaction is the unanimous desire of the political class to exterminate as many medicare/medicaid recipients as possible without having to actually go on record voting for benefit cuts
#8817
so whats actually the sensible take on this? i was riding public transport today putting my fingers in my mouth. i have no perspective.

I posted an angry old french infectious diseases specialist's opinion in the kkkonspiracy thread but i will paraphrase: "fuck you it's a normal coronavirus like the four that typically already circulate in a flu season, how about you pay attention to those deaths too, oh right it's not Chinese and scary. well you know what I'm going to follow Chinese advice and you should too. this is going to not even be a blip compared to typical over-winter death rates due to typical infectious diseases like flu and the above-mentioned non-new coronaviruses. this insane fear mongering is so much worse than the virus itself. p.s. again fuck you."

despite the above i still start assuming i'm going to die if I cough once in a day. hth.

I was waiting for the Metro earlier today and there was a big delay. There was a train in the platform on the other side and a bunch of medics milling around, some guy clearly on the floor of the car they were in, plenty of other people still sitting in the car waiting. It took about 15 minutes for them to bring an inflatable stretcher and get him on it. The guy was old with a big beard and a cane that a woman passed with her bare hands to one of the medics. They covered his body save for his head in a plastic sheet and ferried him away. None were wearing masks, and maybe they knew some information that it wasn't disease related or something. However, when I finally did see him he looked very very dead. Might have been nothing to do with the disease but it was obvious what everyone was thinking.

hope that guy is ok

uh let me talk to him

I don't know why I'm even making this post really because it's probably going to get either ignored or some kind of patronizing fake concern reply without really engaging but I went to the iwd thing my org was putting on. I was an hour late. Mostly my fault but the buses were extremely fucked up today which made it worse. Was on my phone the whole time aside from one of my comrades taking me aside and he seemed pretty concerned about me I dunno. I felt embarrassed and overwhelmed and I'm not really together haha so I don't think I did a great job lying about it. Very cool. Cheers

that sucks. it's hard to be punctual when you rely on transit, especially if you're in a city where it bites ass. it's good to make it out of the house tho
