“The incorrect math on the Caucus Math Worksheets must not be changed to ensure the integrity of the process,” wrote the party lawyer, Shayla McCormally, according to an email sent by Troy Price, the chairman of the party, to its central committee members. The lawyer said correcting the math would introduce “personal opinion” into the official record of results.

Plugging in to Bayes’ Rule, I get 15.8% – a low but hardly negligible risk that Sanders is a totalitarian hiding in plain sight.

You heard it here first folks—there's a 15.8% chance that Bernie is any good

the intelligence agencies first arranged a "briefing" to "warn" both trump and obama about the document's "imminent release", then leaked the fact that the briefing happened to the news press, turning the contents of the bullshit document into "news" so that it was just a race to the bottom as to which Web site would run the thing first (Buzzfeed, surprising no one).

The "briefings" for obama & trump were arranged, then leaked, for the purpose of making the bullshit document, previously not news worth reporting, into news worth reporting.

It amuses me greatly to watch them panic so much, and so unnecessarily, about the possibility of a Sanders nomination.
#310
IMO that's born of the "intelligence community" panic attack in 2016: they thought Trump's party had fumbled the ball in primary season and Clinton would win and act as a proven pal for them, sure... but failing that, they thought the worst-case scenario was that they'd quickly get Trump and his outsider-art cronies in line with their agenda through the minimal amount of pressure they'd apply, at least until they could push him into replacing them with more dialed-in, linked-up Republicans. They've done the same with opportunist critics of theirs before, such as Carter.

I don't think many, if any, of the "intelligence community" entertained the idea, let alone predicted, that Trump would respond to their intimation that he was a foreign agent with anything but public concern for "troubling developments" in foreign influence, or whatever, and an understanding that when they came in to meet him, he and his people needed to make nice and defer to the "community" as experts. That he would go on TV and start denouncing them as liars... I think Washington's way of doing things made them unable to grasp exactly how little of Trump's recent life has been a blustering TV act by a shrewd CEO, or maybe how little of Trump is anything but that act.

In short, they thought Trump would behave exactly as Sanders is behaving now: he'd understand the pressure being put on him and slide right in line with the CIA, parroting their accusations against him, but excising himself from the lines identifying the accused and instead saying, Oh, yes, the filthy Russians are doing the bad thing, and also some of the other things of which I've been accused, those are also sneaky Russians pretending to be my supporters. Sanders is making hay while the sun shines, easy enough given the imperialist, objectively anti-socialist agenda he represents.

It's worth remembering that the FBI had Clinton queued up for an investigation into her 2016 campaign to overlap with her first few months in office, even though she was a tried and true partner with their agenda for years. They put a decent amount of pressure on her husband, too, even though running the Democrats toward the center as a fund-raising gambit was objectively good for them. Their equivalent is someone like Biden or Warren, who will probably agree with them 99 times out of a 100, but they want pressure in case that one time is key to their cross-administration agenda, in case some position of theirs ends up under press scrutiny and demagoguery demands their pal at least feign opposition to it.

The alternative is someone like Spook Boy Mayor, a direct outgrowth of their brand of thuggery who's totally dependent on them and their circle for support, dollars and momentum. I honestly didn't think they'd try as hard as they have with him, figuring him for someone just there to corral his party's fight for the nomination back in line with the CIA on foreign policy, since the idea of a primary challenge to Trump died on the vine. I figured he'd place himself in a good spot for CIA/VP a la George Bush the elder, or a high-level appointment, under the person who beat him early. Maybe that is the idea, I don't know, maybe Sanders will be cowed enough to put the guy in his administration even given recent events, but I would have thought they'd go for that 99 out of 100, a Biden or Warren. I guess, though, they really did throw Biden under the bus for impeachment, which didn't do jack shit given that Trump enjoys record support among independents now. So I don't really expect accusing Sanders of being a Russian agent to do much beyond deprive him of bundled donations he wouldn't get anyway and doesn't seem to need.

the short version is that only the CIA-watch aspect interests me. as usual, who gets to be United $nakkke$ President isn't of interest to socialists.

it's just been an interestingly layered effort this time to ensure business as usual, where the next-worst scenario for the spooks still isn't much worse at all. Sanders was never a threat to the "intelligence community" version of imperialism, but he was successfully pushed to pander to post-Iraq-War kids over it recently. But Sanders just got on his knees for the CIA in front of everyone, probably knowing better than most how their manipulation of the press works, so that's that.

Their worst outcome is Trump's reelection after they blew all that time and money trying to make him look bad, but his administration's agenda isn't very different from the CIA's, either, of course. The problem is turf, and in the material sense, the power to keep endless money flowing exactly where they want before they ask for it. The current White House just took some surprising swings at them that require them to strike back if they want to stay scary and intimidate the rest of Washington, stuff like revoking clearance from some of the retiree shadow government they use to manipulate Congress. In the process, they've normalized doing that in the sun and captured the other party, so they're making hay too.

Though I wonder if any of the "intelligence community" bigwigs have the self-awareness to kick themselves for trying so hard to impeach Trump over boring, details-oriented foreign influence stuff, trying to convince anyone but CNN cocktail party types and "news junkies" that every single lie Trump's people told was treason, that when they start in on it in earnest but point it at a self-described "socialist" Democrat, it's not an automatic trip to the bottom for his campaign. I think they'd all assume it would have been if they'd done it to Sanders back in 2016, when he was playing himself to the political right on everything bullet-related to demonstrate his "seriousness" to a news press that mostly saw him as a fun little loser, a good show that proved their fantasies about vibrant U.S. democracy true in an non-threatening way.

This is why this country sucks, they turn a likeable crotchety grandpa into a CIA warlord.

was that response really sanders getting on his knees for the agency? because i didn't think that was their intention and i don't think it was their intention when they did it with trump the first time either. in both cases it was an attempt to smear their candidacy in favour of a more agency-friendly option - literally anyone else in sanders' case. now, i find this funny for two reasons. the first is that i don't think sanders has said anything that puts him substantially at odds with imperial priorities. the second is that there is a vanishingly small chance, even now, that sanders gets the nomination, let alone beats trump. so the takeaway for me is that the agency is at howard hughes levels of paranoia now, and i choose to be more amused by that than nervous.
#314
I think he'll be the nominee lol and it seems like there has been a change in tone on the T.V., with CNN and MSNBC almost like slow-walking granny into accepting its inevitability (note this is just within the past few days) while Fox has gone full Bolshevik Bernie, which makes me think they've accepted it too. Of course there are always options and he could suddenly have a second, now-fatal heart attack.

Was reading an interview with Sakai about movement security that I thought was interesting. One thing that stuck with me is that while the low-level cops would prefer to just shoot everyone, or lock everyone up and throw away the key, he says the top-level people know it's impractical to do that. Most people if you polled them would say Wall Street sucks hard, and the top-level people know that most people think Wall Street sucks hard. They can't stop that. But if people organize into groups, they can go in and mess them up, whatever they need to do to stop those groups and marginalize them. And, also, not really mess with groups which -- from their perspective -- are deemed as a safe alternative, or like an antidote to the more dangerous groups, because those groups won't cause any problems. But there's a history of security agencies doing this sort of thing and then the safe alternative / antidote starts to grow all of a sudden and pose a threat, at least from their paranoid perspective, and that's a problem. And that's pretty funny.

I was thinking about this re: DSA.

A brokered convention is much more likely imo and I think that's what the smear campaign is aiming for - softening the electorate up for having Sanders lose at the convention no matter how many delegates he goes in with. Apart from that, agreedo

yes... and it’s not like it’s difficult for him, Bernard Sanders has bleated Russophobic Red-baiting nonsense consistently since it came into vogue again in his party. what’s funny to me is every time he does it the eXile boys are like :( n-noo..

#317
like okay there’s arguments Bernard will help build a post-DSA socialist movement that will overwhelm and surpass him, I think the history of social democracy in Europe provides overwhelming evidence it won’t, maybe I’m wrong.

but like.... please don’t try to snow me about how United States Senator Bernard Sanders spent the last four years shouting about how Trump is a Russian agent commie-lover, and certainly not how when the CIA “briefed” him on their line against him as the least ideal facilitator of their agenda, he did it again for like the hundredth time.

I am trying hard to meet people halfway here, i really am but these years of statements by him are a matter of public record and they should probably matter to socialists for reasons I know I don’t have to go over
#318
well i obviously hadn't been paying much attention to his foreign policy rhetoric because it did actually take me by surprise when i watched the start of the debate yesterday and the first question was to sanders, about russia helping him, and he went well past the rudimentary "i am no friend of putin" i was expecting to also say stuff like "i am no friend of president xi, who is an authoritarian", etc. Anyway. if he's been talking like this for a while, as you say, then it's still not really getting on his knees for the agency, is it? it's just refusing to get off them when the agency sidles up and starts rubbing its crotch in his face.

which is why, once again, i find stuff like this so funny:
#319
Last week or so he was asked “What’s your foreign policy?” And he said “Ask Obama”.
