on a side note, in transcribing thomas kirikup's history of socialism, i feel bad this was mao's introduction to socialism. the preface from the editor says that sidney webb will go down in history as a genius equal to marx

lol
#83
also lolling becausse you reminded me that baron and baroness webb are best known for writing a fat thousand page book about how much better soviet communism was than anything else then going home and founding the london school of economics
#84
Yeah it's kinda weird they went from the OG revisionists to that. Bernstein said he realized he was a revisionist in debating the Fabians and the in the middle of it, while defending Orthodox Marxism, realizing he thought they were right. I'd tried to track down that speech of Bernstein's out of curiosity but I don't think it's recorded.

Karphead i think this thread should be stickied because it encourages productivity in the postingship, through which I may feel accomplished by something analogous to a type of humanism denounced by Sartre, where a human invents the vaping fidget spinner and I think, how proud I am to be part of humanity and take a portion of credit I don’t deserve for something I didn’t do. I beseech thee to accept the sticky and cast a spell of permanency on this thy thread

i think it's the other way around, the wiki gets really mad at their support for uncle joe

Ignoring mounting evidence of the atrocities committed by Joseph Stalin, the Webbs were supporters of the Soviet Union until their deaths. Having reached their seventies and early eighties, their books Soviet Communism: A New Civilisation? (1935) and The Truth About Soviet Russia (1942) give a very positive assessment of Joseph Stalin's regime. Trotskyist historian Al Richardson later described Soviet Communism: A New Civilization? as "pure Soviet propaganda at its most mendacious".

#89
I submit that I could be more mendacious than that book if I felt like it
#90
inject that pure soviet propaganda into my veins
#91
sorry synergy i was being facetious and possibly mendacious

I finally understand what marx means when he says the classical political economists see commodity exchange as bartering through abstracting money (Say saying that commodities exchange for commodities to deny the possibility of a glut etc), i.e. in only seeing money as a 'veil' and not a store of value. wow! more marxists should talk about money. does comrade boffy talk about money?
