North Carolina is a weird place that I'm still trying to get a handle on. Awash in 90s blood money laundered through NGOs, financial tycoons fight each other with proxy forces in the cities and habitually ignore rural areas. Their stooges, the Dems, just can't seem to stop falling on their face. the Republican controlled House of Representatives overrode the Governors budget veto, meaning public education and healthcare budgets were slashed. They managed this despite almost half of the House being absent. How? Dems were told there wouldn't be any voting, took Republicans at their word, and decided to wrap themselves in a flag at a 9/11 commemoration ceremony instead of going to work like the rest of us.

Dems also lost the D9 special election, containing Charlotte, site of the next RNC, an election where the previous victor had a bunch of cronies literally stuff ballot boxes with Republican votes. Perhaps Dems running a centrist capitalist Marine impacted turnout? There were certainly a lot of Dem c4s on the ground making the public aware of the special election so its not as if that was a surprise to residents. The Dem in question also returned a campaign donation from Ilhan Omar, saying "there's no room for divisiveness in politics'.

What nonsense is happening in your locality?

As a former swim team guy I support your guy with one Internet vote. Hopefully this will force a recount.

last year my city overwhelmingly passed a referendum to establish a citizen oversight board to investigate our abusive killer kops, overruling the wishes of our progressive democratic mayor and our progressive democratic pig chief. then the state gov swooped in w a new state law that only affects our city to prohibit the board from having any power by say subpoena to actually investigate anything. but that's okay because the fop kop in charge says he'll cooperate with the board willingly. except, as it turns out, he's stonewalled every single investigation the board has been working on since it's inception. v surprising stuff

o yeah also as a gesture of good faith the police dept p much dumped all responsibility for handling complaints about police abuse into the board's lap before giving them the finger and walking away

the board, whose members were handpicked by the mayor and the pig chief, is holding a meeting w the mayor to impotently complain at him

The Federal election is getting going, and my riding is one of several where the NDP (perennial loser socdem) candidate, because he is so very not racist, decided that since the rest of Canada is too racist to vote for a party for a Sikh leader (not that they could win with anyone else either) he is morally obligated to bail on the party at the last minute and switch to the Greens, our neoliberal optics-only pseudoenvironmentalists. Except the Greens, because they don't actually believe in anything, are mentally paralyzed at whether or not it is a good idea for them to actually run the extremely not actually racist traitor. The campaigning is underway and neither party has actually figured out a candidate, it is very likely the deadline will pass before either of these very competent and professional parties figure out who they want to nominate.

So because even the complete sucker gutter tier trash leftists don't have either a fake socialist or fake environmentalist candidate to vote for, and the reds aren't running a protest candidate here (focusing on ridings where they can make a bigger splash,) we're having a little fun campaigning for a unified spoiled ballot initiative. I might make a campaign poster for our dog.

My city voted to end all prison labor contracts at the beginning of this year, and the day after the vote, the Department of Transportation paraded a bunch of prison laborers around the main thoroughfares under the pretense of doing repairs on state roads.

I am real surprised that Whoops Wrong Apartment Cop got any jail time at all, I guessed it would be like a month of paid leave. But it’s probably because the black man she shot was an accountant, and the judge allowed the court to see text messages where someone said the cop should get a German Shepherd but joked that it “might be racist”, and the cop responded Ah but I too am that thing, racist.

that whole trial was a shitshow. we had the judge telling the jury that they could consider if burglars are able to stand their ground against homeowners, the bailiff combing murder lady's hair, the judge crying and hugging murder lady, the dead guy's brother hugging her, murdered guy's dad being like "i wanna be your friend" to her or whatever. i felt like i was taking crazy pills seeing all these people fawn over a racist who murdered half of them's own family member while he was sat on the couch eating ice cream of all things.

double tapped him while he's in a tub of ben and jerrys, refused to do cpr, and they cry for her. i can believe in aliens easier than what i've seen with my own eyes this week. totally defies explanation

turns out it might have been a lifesaving maneuver, since one of the witnesses just happened to have been shot and killed. police say they have no apparent motive or suspects.......fucking hell

dallas pd has the suspects in custody. love too drive 400 miles for weed, immediately kill my supplier, and then not take the weed

And not take the $4,000+ in cash either! Interdasting!

I always assumed the police just go grab a random guy and frame him and call it a day, than do their actual job.

bout a week ago i went to check out an apartment in Reutlingen and saw a gigantic swastika spraypainted in the middle of the road outside a restaurant with a rather lonely and friendly goat, which was a shame because i bonded with that goat and the rent was 100 euros less than what i'm at rn

so the privatized water utilities company has been collecting data on lead in the water for a decade now and telling people everything is fine, levels are normal and they're safe.

a while back a couple journalists and activists asked "well can we see your data" and EPCOR was like "ummmmm No." "how about if we FOIA it" "ummmm then we'll see you in court" and as of today "how about if we win" "ummmm ok there's a fucking shitton of lead in the water and you've all been drinking poison, OOPS"
#33
the local city hall thought that they would make the problem go away by saying in a statement they've been seeing the reports the whole time and didn't think there was a problem. I do not think this strategy will have the desired effect.
#34
iirc in canada the regs say 10 parts per billion is the limit. it would be interesting to hear, what the local city hall folks say informed their appraisal

someone spray painted hammers and sickles all over the underpasses here, but the same person also wrote 'glory to the heroes' next to some of them. so either that has some other connotation that I'm not aware of or this person is confused.
