I've actually been talking with the real Parenti recently. :) Got his phone number he's a nice guy. If I make it out to the West Coast this winter I'm going to meet him.

feeling anxious on vacation because the amount of cognac, gin & syrup im drinking is making me think I'm fat because I haven't seen my abs in a few days but I found an old socialist book in a Nazi memorabilia shop that doesn't seem blatantly revisionist in need of some transcribing

today was comedically bad. woke up to the sound of a mouse in the kitchen. riding in to work, my bike lock fell off somewhere a 1/2 mile from where i live, i backtracked all the way and didnt see it. on the train i got tagged by the transit cops trying to freeload on my commute in (although they didnt ticket me). at work i was told i couldnt leave my bike inside the building even though they knew i didnt have a lock. so i basically had to take an early lunch to go buy a new lock. the rest of the workday sucked, natch. and when i got home i had a jury letter in the mail. ive bought a lot of mouse bait, glue traps and mousetraps and theres going to be some payback.
#8339
oh yeah, the bright spot of the day was when two of my co-workers gave me a ride to get a new lock, none of us wanted to go back to work so we took a stupid long lunch. i found out that my co-worker's late husband was an adoptee at age 3. when his aunt picked him up he had cigarette burns all over his arms. so yeah, not a bad day at all. in perspective.

if yr current strategy doesn't work try peppermint oil along baseboards and the back of every cupboard. if you're in an apartment you don't have to be an airtight rodentproof fortress, just less appealing than other units in the building. and it smells nice!!
#8342
i went to berlin this week, spent almost the entire time in the former ddr area, its incredible, recommended

don't go to the ddr museum it's an overcrowded tourist trap where you do nothing but open cupboard doors to see what cans of deodorant look like. the labels on everything strain too hard to make "having a space efficient bathroom" be totalitarian or something. instead go slightly up the road opposite where the palace of the republic was (rip) theres a gigantic complex of museums where they have the ishtar gate for some reason
#8343
according to legend, the archeological stuff from the middle east in the pergamon museum were given to germans as part of the payment for the railroad project from istanbul to mecca. the legend says that according to this deal, any ancient shit over some meters or kms away from the rails would belong to germans automatically and that the road curved around some ancient site (pergamon probably) because of the hills and shit so germans took everything. i didn't bother to verify this because i love speculation more than the truth like any internet leftist

edit: on second thought i remembered that a few of the pieces of ishtar gate are in a museum in istanbul
#8344
the funniest thing about the pergamon museum's ishtar gate display is that they didn't make the room its in tall enough to fit the other side of the wall, so they put something else there instead. you walk through the literal gates of babylon and end up in a roman marketplace, turn around and behind you is a roman city wall, its like how weird geography gets in a dream or something

the actual pergamon altar isn't on display because of some building work going on but eh whatever

also the berlin cathedral is right there too. the DDR repaired all the war damage and did a complete restoration to the whole thing, except this little side area that was built in honour of the rich fucks that bankrolled the original construction. they dynamited that part because fuck the bourgeoisie. you don't get to make the house of god about yourself just because you've got money

does anyone have literature/advice on parenting that isn't new age liberal bullshit that puts all the load on the parents as individuals/as one couple? specifically anything about parenting autistic kids (all/any of the 3 'levels' of severity in the new-ish diagnostic rubric), especially if the adults are, also, autistic
or any literature/posts talking about 'new age individualist liberal bullshit' in childrearing, education and mental health as more general topics
thank

will the childs be working in the agrarian sector? because if so read volume 40 first imo. if not feel free to read in the approved order

Speaking of, owning that collection is on my bucket list. My undergrad university had it (and all of Stalin’s!) and I sorely miss it. The problem is, the USSR collapsed and the edition my university had is out of print due to the blackest reaction. Not sure if another edition is in print now.
