I finished the first book in that Malazan series which was ok, I got halfway through the second or so which was substantially better. I got distracted by other stuff but is it worth it to continue?

*at workplace that gives career advice to people*

co-worker:
the economy is doing great right now, there's just so much work available for everyone!
me: following the economic cycles this system goes through, we're in for another crash pretty soon *pulls up unemployment screen*
co-worker: and? so what?
me: isn't this kind of screwed up? it's going to happen again and no preparations or discussions are happening
co-worker: what's the big deal? we're fine

and then i drove a T-34 through the office, blasting the internationale at max volume which shattered every window and instantly turned everyone red before taking to the streets to crush the bourgeoisie

...i may have daydreamed that last part

I bought an American flag hand towel that I'm using to scrub dirt from all the hard-to-reach places like the hinges of the toilet seat and around the feet of the stove. I'm much happier doing chores now that I have this... it's the little things, you know?

every time nashville passes an ordinance or passes a referendum to do anything remotely progressive the carrioneaters in the state govt fuck it up

they passed state bills to wreck a city affordable housing initiative

now the majority leader of the state house of reps says he's gonna fuck up our new citizen's oversight board that passed overwhelmingly in referendum last week. on the basis that an independent & neutral review board that just refers cases for investigation is a violation of a nonexistent constitutional obligation that cops have to protect the people of the state, a genuine absurdity

while reviewing our state constitution for fun i discovered that ministers and priests are ineligible to hold public office due to their higher calling to serve god. also ineligible for no given reason: anyone who denies the existence of god and/or an afterlife featuring punishment/reward

also his ridiculously high output--he writes like two doorstops a year, and they're usually still really readable--is suggestive of being totally insane in a way that fits perfectly with his practical needs, which afaik is pretty Mormony

got monthly workplace safety meetings, this month, distracted driving & defensive driving. sgt pig came in to give the talk and spent the whole time showing us a slideshow of car wrecks. culminating witha rock/lite metal music video set to scenes of gruesome injuries and accident victims including a teddy bear sitting in a puddle of blood in the back seat of a mangled sedan, that he made himself. didn't talk about safe driving at all. made chauvinist jokes with jiggling gut and akimbo arms resting on his gun hostler. southern folksy old boy no shave november scruffy pig mirthy with death and dogwhistle distain fucj

why did he take so many pictures of empty shoes that had been flung from fatal collisions

real life for me, as most of you will know, is split between being a stay at home dad and a student. the former takes up way more of my time and energy, the real drain being constant exposure to repetitive kid's entertainment.

so i'm sharing my pain by posting a couple of weirder youtubes i've seen while trying to keep the lil guy entertained (not ones of famous characters changing body parts, or minions pissing or whatever).

first, the 'london bridge' nursery rhyme reimagined as a kaiju blockbuster with an unlikely hero
https://youtu.be/1kSFWCt1rFM

and here is the weirdest version of 'little bo peep' ever made, all i can say really hhttps://youtu.be/uq0bDY9XwO8

it's ironic to me that so many articles are written about the shitty AI exploiting youtube algorithms on kids' videos for everything from money to grooming, when bizarre clickfarm sweatshops full of real people are really out here just making the best kids youtubes they can think of. the results are better than any algorithm

It's my favourite of the weird kids youtube songs. Especially the rap break at 1:24. That channel is Indian and has turned into a massive business apparently, they're planning merch and everything haha

what does socialist construction mean for people working in airport convenience stores? doesn't exactly hold the same level of charisma and excitement as going down to the country. disappointed that i can't find any little socialist pins or english language little red books for sale either.

edited to add that politics are boring (and here's why that's a good thing) and i shouldn't be projecting a romanticized conception of revolution onto folks going day by day

jumped back on to answer PMs and also post a couple of worthless videos but might as well update before i log off again - all is going well, almost over the hump of the immediate irl demands on my time and energy (study related) and then this weekend i get to enjoy celebrating my kid's 2nd birthday, which is always nice for a parent, the yearly remind that hey, you can't have fucked up too bad, they're still here! so all going to plan i will be back to my usual schedule of unhealthy compulsive refreshing and posting some time next week. God bless you all.
