Friend, a weakness and burning in the left hand is a sure sign of Death. the Weakness is your organs shutting down, and the burning is a result of being that much closer to Hell. please check with your Doctor quickly. Was fired for staying home during Florence, so I've had plenty of free time to drive donated food and clothes to the airport for Operation Airdrop. So far the coalition has shipped 88k lbs of materials (Each plane only has 500 lbs capacity but my brains too dead for math) to eastern NC in the past two days but three volunteers have passed out due to stress and lack of sleep, so weve been forced to start a rotation and start turning regulars away to go home. Increases the workload on others but you have to take care of everybody. Waiting to hear if roads are open to REDACTED tomorrow, where theres a migrant worker encampment of 300ish people without vehicles that that have been without food for roughly 4 days and havent been paid in 10. In one of the other towns, the drop off location had all its supplies taken by a few people supposedly in a local nonprofit literally strongarming multiple Uhauls worth of supplies, so we are sending security with the trucks now. Fuckin Yugoslavia out here.

Also, the Bob Barker company, a fundie Christian prison supplier, sent us a bunch of detainee clothes as donation. They ended up burnt off the runway somehow.

Florence isn't as bad as previous hurricanes but disater relief is exhausting work. I'm glad I'm getting some experience with it now, since theres gonna be a lot of it coming in the future.

I met a turkish communist who talked about how he went to a "socialist" (iso) meeting here and we both complained about imperialist trots for a while which was fun

feeling really down about meeting tons of people who inevitably leave. not in the sense of anything happening, but in just traveling and meeting other people who are traveling. after my travels end this winter i want to settle down and find community somewhere.

Operation Airdrop is done, what little Florence materials left are being transitioned to A Just Florence Recovery. Over the past week of operation 516 flights were made and 280,692 lbs of supplies were sent to tons of different communities in eastern NC. Hurricane recovery is gonna be a long process, and it feels almost surreal to go back to work at a restaurant later today. I'd rather be sorting and packing, or driving. Work sucks, helping people feels great. Eh

edit: maybe we can find a math topic we're both interested in, like i want to learn about the euclidean groups E1 thru E3, and you posted visual group theory, maybe we can do the exercises together, some communal learning? plz PM backk

Been sober for a year and a half now, quitting alcohol led to a lot of very positive life changes. I am finishing up my bachelors degree at a pretty accelerated pace and should be done in 9 months or so. I am kind of uneasy with so much of my time devoted to corporate ladder climbing after spending years blogging about communism. I've been in a sales job/sales manager job for the past 5 years and it has definitely affected my worldview. I would be interested in any books that anyone would recommend addressing these kinds of personal identity/worldview changes that come from this.

How exactly do you think the job has affected your worldview?

On an overt level I still believe that Marxism leninism is the correct way to interpret events but acting in a way consistent with ML has negative career and money impacts. My actions have basically been a bastardized version of ML, using the concepts to sell more stuff, using a dialectical approach to sales training, and helping employees create a new moral compass that's more compatible with selling. My gut reactions to poor people, people down on their luck, etc are pretty negative because of the impact to my sales results. I can't say I went into it blind since I crossed a decision point awhile ago to go down this road instead of one more consistent with ML. Leftists abandoning their ideology because of career and money isn't anything new but I still believe it's the correct way to view the world.
