it affected me a little because i lived in the new york suburbs and from the park we could see the entire skyline on fire basically, and peoples' parents worked in the city and were trapped, and a friend of my teacher's died. luckily i had what some might call 'nutty' anti-imperialist parents who got basically shunned by the entire town for bringing up the idea that it might have been the government at the pro forma 'solemn sadness' town council meeting soon afterwards.
