I arrived at my conference today and someone asked how are you liking the US. And my friend shook her head and said, he hates it and he wants to go home, while i nodded.
#7125
talked with Jason Unruhe today. He doesn't like Settlers either! heart bnroken

So far that's Grover Furr, Jason Unruhe, and my Dad that didn't like it. Never meet your heroes folks.
#7126
he wouldn't be very unruhe if he liked stuff!!!
#7127
whenever communists speak approvingly of jason unruhe i feel the same mix of puzzlement and queasiness as when music likers speak approvingly of that needle drop guy
#7128
Wait, why doesnt he like Settlers. It seems exactly like the kind of thing he'd like
#7129
im just goofing. although this event did occur in real life, on the internet. he did the thing you do when you want to lazily dismiss something, turn it into an "all or nothing" argument which is nothing about what Settlers is about, then strike it down. Like "are 100% of white people not proletarian in America?" Nothing new.

i linked him to https://revolutionaryleftradio.libsyn.com/in-defense-of-china-as-a-socialist-state-w-ajit-singh , which is pretty pro click, and he said he "already made a response to Ajit Singh". I'll link it for the sake of fairness: https://maoistrebelnews.com/2017/10/14/china-is-not-socialist-a-response-to-ajit-singh/

might read it later but I did like that podcast.

edit: remembering now he complained about RAIM's stance and that it wasn't "third worldist" when asked about Settlers. I don't think he's read it.

im enjoying the increasingly popular genre of post where a rhizzoner is dropped into a room full of normal people and pulls the settlers trigger in their vest, unleashing the j sakai truth bomb

can't feel too bad for a life spent building some worthless 10,000 year clock, a monument to spare time, instead of making clothes for his neighborhood, or whatever. hoarding rare volunteer engineering talent, that could be shaping what 10,000 AD looks like, within the critical next 15 years. instead of making the clock that stops ticking then.

posted a long time ago about The Long Now Foundation, this weird clock-building, profitless startup in san francisco

this is just silicon valley building a monument for itself but there are other art projects tackling the same theme. early pogues member jem finer made longplayer.org and it seems brian eno was involved with both these projects.

Longplayer is a one thousand year long musical composition. It began playing at midnight on the 31st of December 1999. The composition of Longplayer results from the application of simple and precise rules to six short pieces of music. Six sections from these pieces – one from each – are playing simultaneously at all times. Longplayer chooses and combines these sections in such a way that no combination is repeated until exactly one thousand years has passed. The six short pieces of music are transpositions of a 20’20” score for Tibetan Singing Bowls, the ‘source music’. These transpositions vary from the original not only in pitch but also, proportionally, in duration.

a long time ago when my musical tastes were shifting from metal to indie and i had just come online looking for music (audiogalaxy anyone?), this site was streaming and its been streaming for 18 years nonstop. i didn't get drone back then and this site was just some online curiosa but it has given me hours and hours of pleasure since then. still gotta stream it the old school way!

i've been training for a new job, which is good, but many of the people training with me are ex-military or ex-law enforcement, which is really really bad. they think i'm some kind of intense loner but actually i hate eating with my colleagues because their dogshit ignorant opinions make me want to fly off the handle and go 'stalin did nothing wrong - in fact, he did everything right' and just go off from there, out myself as an insane internet maoist and get fired immediately

If you do that and report back with what happened in detail you’ll get so much rep

spent 10 hours cleaning a clarifier. it is nott as much fun as it sounds! the coolest part is that when you are inside the impeller tube scraping off a years worth of deposits, you can recollect the interesting things that have happened over that time. the layers in the scale is reminiscent of Fordite, the accumulated layers of automotive paint from car plants that is sometimes used as a sort of gemstone. the deepest layer, from last summer, was tannish brown from the high turbidity in raw influent due to flooding from the remnants of last year's hurricanes. that is followed by a black layer from the shitloads of powdered activated carbon we fed to improve water odor and flavor, as well as lower total organic compounds (sorta counterintuitive but it works). ultimately this reduces the crap that chlorine eats, so disinfection byproducts also go down. then there are light gray layers from autumn when things calmed down; it's just from the slaked lime we feed to soften the water so as to cause iron and manganese to precipitate. narrow bands describe low flow rates over the winter.. every storm and dosage rate is represented as your gaze approaches the surface of the caked on crap that your scrapping off a wall . beautiful

World cup final just kicked off. wouldve liked to see it at a croatian club but the one having the big party open to the public is on the far side of town and id be driving over an hour each way, unable to drink and getting home after 3am. So instead i am sitting up in bed with a mug of instant coffee hoping for an upset. Fuck to the frogs.

i mean croatia would have been fucked in the second half anyway but first half should have ended 1-0 their way. the ref not catching the pen wasnt a clear and obvious error so fuck awarding it from VAR
