Moved from Aztlan to the Black Belt, got a job in a Waffle House, a side gig as a server and I'm hooked into the local party branch. Never worked in a state that allowed tip credits, fucking sucks.
E: for those who aren't familiar with that term, a company you work for has to pay minimum wage, but most states allowed the boss to count any tips towards your wage, meaning your per hour can go as low as $2-3 an hour.

I decided to only log into stuff on Tuesdays, this site included. I realized it makes me feel a lot lonelier, but I've also been a lot more productive which is really good. I've been reading Badiou and Lacan so I'm obviously going nuts, but I'm materially well situated for once.

i worked in VA where the bar’s GM let me declare as many tips as i wanted and i declared most of them every day because i was technically supposed to. that is probably the hardest i’ve ever Owned myself for not knowing how taxes work

i dont get "tips" in my job per se, but i do get thank you notes. in 4.5 years ive gotten...5. well, really its 4 because the 5th was a client thanking me and then asking me to do more work but you gotta pick your victories. at least its more thank yous than death threats (just 1). gotta love this job

The event was ok, I got a bunch of papers from groups doing local work to try to get the city and my university to divest from prison labor and help migrant laborers. One of the people I talked to had read Settlers. I managed to mostly avoid the Socialist Alternative table.
Almost died laughing when I saw a young guy with a giant patch on his denim jacket that said "DANGER: ANARCHIST" walking around holding hands with a hippie looking woman. I'd never met that particular caricature before.

i think theres probably a lot to be said about the degradation of aesthetic sensibility(probably coupled with a loss of literacy when it comes to works of art) in contemporary capitalism and how exactly thats affected by class but i dont think i know enough to talk about it much

Going to a conference at a local university about the "Rebirth" of Marxism. Seems like it will be pretty well attended. Unfortunately it's going to be totally dominated by a certain type of Post-Marxist and Marxist academics as well as various stripes of Trot so I imagine a lot of it will be irritating. With Toni Negri as keynote speaker that was to be expected I suppose. The other is Jodi Dean who I'm at least fairly interested in. Quite tellingly the only paper on socialist states is entitled "Marxism and genocide: hauntings of the Khmer Rouge".
