they represent something really unique - a fusion of "marxism-leninism" with conspiracy thinking - and all the corruption that comes with trying to do that. Taking on the mental burden of conspiracy thinking and paranoia and fusing that together with an accurate world view framework which expains the overarching meta-conspiracy and provides a huge amount of evidence of many actual conspiracies, then finding a bunch of other people who you can reinforce things with, who you are simultaniously very paranoid about, is a very powerful drug and so im not suprised that they have all gone off course into paranoia, insularity, believing stupid things, depression, cliquiness and general cultishness.

I really do love cuttlefish's research into the development of computing, but what happens so often with people who look into conspiracy theories seriously is that on top of the general way it fucks people up in the head they very often is they become very credulous - if something fits neatly with your meta-conspiracy framework then it is very hard to write it off as not being true. I see this in the CIA drug researcher guy who is now really big into how russia hacked the election, thats what liberal conspiracy research will do to you; communist conspiracy research leads you to thinking everyone and everything is an psyop, and that tHE rHizzonE was built by the cia to distract the western left. Enough time spent looking at this stuff and soon you will start to believe every conspiracy theory out there, and you'll start overlooking things that contradict your thesis. Its part of the reson ive had such trouble finishing my grenada conspiracy piece - there is lots of janky research out there: people so keen to believe that they cant even do basic source research. I actually wrote a huge prelim caveat to my never to be published grenada thing about the effect that conspiracy research (over and above your standard deep state parapolitics research) has on people, from which i am not excluded.

You see these problems in of their overarching themes, the deliberate mind control elements of mass media & internet, this is a great conspiracy theory and one i put a lot of stock in, i mean hollywood consults the prentagon and CIA constantly on film plots, its not that much of a jump to cuttlefsh levels, but when you center this as primary you find yourself building a hugely elaborate framework which really just reduces down to the same old thing: everyone in the USA is fat lazy and racist because everyone is brainwashed by propaganda, whereas i tend to try and center the fact that i can go to the supermarket and buy 50 cups of coffee for £3

so what im saying is we need to fuse MTW with conspiracy research.

a really good angle of conspiracy research would be to look at the effects of how rapidly advancing an imperialist controlled computer network into the periphery has provided mass availibility of highly addictive drug-like rape propaganda to men at a time of massive upheaval of women from the coutryside to the factories of the cities

yeah, it's a lot of what leads me to seeing it in a glass half full way as a mystery cult, as someone who can't really sustain the sort of sadistic interest in it that would keep me trying to figure out all the convoluted mythology and backstory. but it's still a mystery cult where i can't see myself wanting to really know that much more about it, if there are even a set of beliefs there that aren't just vague insinuations in a certain cadence with certain code words to indicate loyalty. that's something found in a lot of social groups but usually red-aligned political groups, however loose, have at least a notion of a conceptual meeting place where they can (or feel they should) sit down and settle things when it's needed. without that it's genuinely depressing to me, to see even a small group of people walking on eggshells around each other all the time and that's their whole deal.

but the esotericism parallels are kind of fun to think about. like there's the thing they have where any good publicity for communism or the political left, no matter the event or its nature as accident or incident, well, we know about it, so it came through compromised channels, so it has to be fake, and not only fake but malicious and calculated. all good publicity is a conspiracy to attack. all good publicity is always already revealed as bad publicity.

what's interesting is that from what little i've seen of the way they express that whole deal, i feel like that POV is impregnable, and in a way that stands out even among conspiracy theorists. without some big break from the group and the comfort zones of conversations in it, it would maintain itself in a way that would be impervious to outside change and in a manner that's maybe a step further than the usual ad hoc reasoning of conspiracy theorists in the West.

like... it's often in the form of "everyone's talking about that story, so that story is the psy op, because there's this other story going on, that's the real thing the distraction is designed to obscure." but then if people they don't like who ostensibly share their politics start picking up on that other, "real" story, well then, that story is suspect now, and fake, and malicious, because people have heard about it, and that's always because the bad people want everyone to pay attention to it, no exceptions.

so there is never an Alex Jones/Trump moment, the sort of thing you see in a lot of right-wing and even "centrist", single-personality-oriented conspiracy groups, where the issue or issues the conspiracy-oriented group have been insisting are important recently finally make it minor-leagues big in public awareness, even if it's in the sense of news outlet stories about "what a bunch of clowns, aren't people stupid", or half-hearted pandering like the Trump people do at the bare minimum level required to keep one sliver of their coalition around, the "finally" moment that fills the conspiracy theorist with false hope and redoubled energy because they think their decayed version of a revolutionary situation is at hand.

instead, in this sort of marx-mystery-cult fusion, if people are paying attention to it, it's already been perverted and sullied and was always cooked up to fool people, so victory is literally impossible to imagine, even small victories, if they make any progress or they're even noticed by any sizable number of people. which is odd because i imagine it's also very, very, very hard for anyone to admit they changed their mind recently on any topic in that group because then you're probably a secret T-800 or whatever they think people are.

Seems like twitter should be good for seeing new work by little-known figure artists. But every time I try one their next five posts are: video game character, same video game character, superhero, same video game character kissing superhero, reminder they will draw them fucking for $50. Sad!

i've been reading anti-anti-imperialist Twitter conversations this afternoon and i guess i'm more shocked than i should be about how many of the people in them either refuse to read the conversations they're talking about, either that or they're people i know who have read those conversations and they're being willfully obtuse in ways that surprise me.

"why can't The Tankies just say that Assad isn't as good as socialism for Syria but he's better than U.S. bombing & ISIS death squads?" Uhhhhhh because they do say that lol

'i find it odd that "regime change" has become a kind of specifically demonic action true radicals oppose while "propping up friendly dictators" is something only lame-o libs care about opposing' - HK i love you man but i don't think that's real. Like... ask anyone criticizing U.S. anti-DPRK propaganda what they think about the history of ROK or look at what articles about ROK they're trying to get other people to read.
#538
then like, tom posts what he says is the ultimate tweet storm game theory that will destroy anti-imperialism on Syria and i scroll down through this wall of text and... yeah... by post #15 or so the guy states as though it's uncontroversial that ISIS would be better for Syria than the Baathists. And it's like brother, I don't think even the United States government says shit that crazy-sounding out loud to other people on the Internet when they're trying to convince people to help overthrow a government.

syria wold not be better off under ISIS, not afraid to say this

Not twitter but communist reddit goes through waves. The latest wave is Dengism, used to be ultraleftist Maoism. I've lost the energy to fight the waves, the site is designed for politics in meme form and the youth seem to love it. Maybe I would have too since it's basically the leftist version of "talking points" that let you respond instantly to prepackaged critique in prepackaged form. Thought not required.

I'm not even opposed to arguing China is socialist (crow rip). But like everything else on the internet ideas become memes and memes become the language of communities and before you know it people are saying the cultural revolution was anarchism just to belong. No understanding of the issues being discussed, no awareness of the consequences of their ideas, no sober thought at all, just a rush for answers to everything right now in meme form. We're experiencing it here but web 2.0 has basically turned everyone into a moron, though reddit is 100x better than twitter.
#556
posting on twitter is like pissing into a hurricane, posting on reddit is like playing "mother may i" with a brain damaged rent-a-cop. ask not which is better, ask instead why bother
