It's really easy to make a baby and your body is constantly trying to trick you into doing it. Kind of fucked up honestly,

Mind / body / soul are different... each governs 3 stats from which we use all our skills. System is like this Mind + reason (stat) + logic (skills) = your total bonus, roll 2d10 and add your bonus and compare to the target number for your task. Now fighting spells, of course, use a different system.

TPaine... Essentially what happens is you kiss a woman, and then you black out for about an hour or two, then you wake up naked in some sort of chalk circle, and the woman says "the deed is done", then you gather your clothes and take the small boat back to the town. Then the woman gets fat and the fat congeals into a baby, which she pees out after one year. Then the baby gets a normal name and then also a secret name which binds them.

i checked the university of utah econ department speaker series and <paging tpaine> anwar shaikh is coming. then i started thinking about how i was pathetically rejected from every grad program i applied to years ago and couldnt possibly get into one except by a dramatic movie trailer scene where i stand up and ask a good question of a speaker and get noticed by an older professor who takes me under his wing etc. and then i started thinking about whether or not i would even take that opportunity if it were offered to me cos electrical is such a better deal in many ways. and then i went back to oh yeah, that opportunity will never be offered to me because i could barely get recommendations together five years ago let alone today and failed linear algebra _three_ times.

I feel like at least a few of us are going to coalesce into a sort of dream team collective and like... bring socialism to grenada or something.

with kids its kind of weird that the only people who we try to hide the existence of sex from are the ones who cant make more people. it's like if there was a conspiracy to keep knowledge of swimming from the paralyzed

very occasionally i meet someone who has children who i think it was correct for them to have children, thinking, that is a good person who probably is raising a good child. or else sometimes i meet a person who is so good and healthy that i think, that person could only be the product of a good upbringing. or like when someone expresses love for their family and it doesn't sound neurotic or disingenuous in some way, that person is probably pretty good-hearted. anyway sometimes it's good to remember that not everyone is as fucked up as i am or almost everyone i know. just a sanity check in the REAL LIFE thread

i just mentally backpedaled from thinking "i like and respect most of these folks but actually working with anyone from around here would be a guaranteed disaster" because i remembered that everyone i've successfully worked with IRL has also been a disaster

Today I had a singular experience with a trot who was getting people to sign a petition to stop the Australian governments impending legislation that will permanently ban anyone who turns up in a boat from every entering the country (refugees included). I signed and then she started holding forth without introduction about how Venezuela isn't really socialist, and putting aside the merits of that argument it struck me as a profoundly narcissistic behaviour that wasn't designed to convince another person, but to stroke and soothe their own ego. I've been reading psychoanalytic stuff about narcissism and its role in all mental pathologies so maybe I'm just reading too much into someones anxious behaviour, but I believe that kind of approach to recruitment or even just conversation is motivated not by a genuine motivation to convey ideas. Its motivated by the need for a narcissistic personality to perform the right behaviours and maintain the behavioural exoskeleton they have in place of a personality. They're trying to convince others that the identity they've build as a fortress against the intrusion of another person is believable and doing its job in propping up the narcissistic ego.

For example during this rant I was told that China isnt socialist because they have a wealthy elite running the government. And I said but hang on, isnt socialism determined by other things, like who is in control of the state, and the way the means of production are owned and so on. I said I'm not certain either way but I think those things are important for understanding it. Which provoked a response of refusal and recoiling, what are you a stalinist or something, and eventually she physically removed herself from this debate she'd initiated with me despite my obvious desire to sign the thing and keep moving

What is amazing is how easily people with left-liberal political beliefs will literally recoil when faced by any kind of consistent opposition. I have no doubt that petit bourgeious identity is just drenched in narcissism, in a turn inwards that rejects other people and so constructs and projects an identity that puts distance between them and contact. So there's no authenticity to the belief (say about China's mode of production), its motivated by the extremely mentally taxing necessity of getting other people to believe in their projected identity/exoskeleton. I'm a caring socialist, I believe this and that. Everyone has to believe this about me or they might catch a glimpse of what I really am. As a result even touching on the idea without totally giving in to their opinion is like tearing open a wound, its immensely painful and they have to remove themselves from the situation (or some other response that allows them to escape).

My point is that it made me appreciate the mental fortitute Getfiscal displays every week when he attends the Trotsky Lovers Line Dancing event at the toronto dance hall (formerly debutante ballroom).

trots are bad but i'm not sure they're narcissists just because they continue to think they can bolster their politics by badmouthing leftist governments. i think maybe they're just dumb. maybe it's just jealousy, mixing up with a violent mind.
