Please don't post references to living people casually committing suicide.. it's very frustrating to those of us who identify as dead. You can't be born with the privilege of a living person, then one day just decide to co opt the "dead" identity because its convenient, or because it's like a "joke" to you... Here's some things you can't do as a deceased person in america: Rent an apartment / own a house, adopt a child, hold a job, serve in the military / on the police force, buy spraypaint (yep!), and in some states dead people can't even vote. Don't tell me dead people have it "easy" or that we "control" anything..

ty. it's definitely been a lesson in the ins and outs of organizing. the hardest part was when a fairly intelligent albeit socially awkward member of the group had a full-blown pink ninja-style psychotic meltdown and started saying flatly inappropriate and offensive stuff during meetings... it got so bad that after we had to ask him to leave he started waiting outside the library space where we meet and doing some other stalker-type stuff. I don't think he would have tried anything violent, but some of the members of the group who had been singled out wound up taking out a restraining order and he eventually got committed. it was pretty fucked up and we lost some really good people because of it.

I'm glad your group pulled through the crisis. Dealing with mental illness and stalking/harassment behaviors like that IRL is extremely difficult, and some people have totally unpragmatic and even harmful expectations about the kind of support a community can give, especially communities gathered for purposes entirely unrelated to supporting people who are unwell.

Its super cool that you are rising to the challenges presented to you and that you and your group are learning, growing. Thanks for sharing with us.

thank you!

my Dream right now is to get Khadr's lawyer Dennis Edney to give a short talk at an anti-imperialism event because he has a really rad perspective to speak from.

He spoke at the OFL convention earlier this year and came to the Communist party booth afterwards to look at the literature. Alas, I didn't hear his talk but other people had high praise for it.

i remembered yesterday that if i took 2 more years to get a masters and then 5+ years to get a phd that i would be in my mid-40s probably when i got my first real career job, which seems like a bad idea overall really.

that actually sounds pretty sweet imo

that actually sounds like you will have been successful in maintaining your independence from the wage-labor system for half a lifetime which would be cool and good

i have work experience, just boring office stuff though and not anything with real independent responsibility that you need for career-like jobs. anyway not working sucks pretty bad for various reasons. i don't really care as much what specific job i do anymore because i'm not as depressed, so it doesn't seem as big of a deal. the only thing i worry about is whether i can continue to make jokes all day without some man with high blood pressure yelling at me about how the use of nuclear weapons on tel aviv isn't part of the ontario ministry of finance's sense of humour or whatever.

there are a large number of finance jobs where you basically just manage government debt on a rolling basis which seems like it would be zen-like. either that or working for a public sector pension fund would be cool.

hello i have not read the thread but the joke post i was going to post in the rHizzonE thread "Mods?!" is not showing up so i have no choice but to post it here, the context involves a discussion about the ways to ensure quality, non-mustang posters:

Just use this quiz

How much do you hate liberalism?

A) Hate it? I'm living it!
B) We need to promote marginalized voices within the current system.
C) Haha, yeah I guess if you really think about it, everything is extremely fucked? haha
D) i love meme's
E) The 20th party congress expressed a fundamental abandonment of Marxist-Leninist thought and did real harm to the international movement for socialism.
F) I am a fundamentally flawed human being and this is the only medium i have of expressing myself.

(obvious inference: are these the kinds of mods we want?)

al franken once pointed out that phil gramm never lived without federal assistance, since he used to brag he was raised on a veteran's pension, then went to a public university and sustained himself by stealing time from public sector econ academia to pimp his consulting firm until he was elected to a seat in the government as an extreme fascist friendly right winger. this could be you, getfiscal.

This post would have easily gotten at least 2-4 upvotes were i allowed to post it in the relevant thread. Mods?! More like Nods(of the head like fascist sheep approving the orderly fashion of the lines which lead them to the slaughterhouse).

yeah. when I change careers and become a romance novelist at 40 I want the communism to "full" but I expect the worst. my dad worked the same job for 35 years and gramps was the same
