im watching streams of US TV (NBA coverage) and its actually pretty fascinating to me how _integrated_ military stuff is into these TV broadcasts. Troops courtside at the games, little ad vignettes of NBA stars saying how thankful they are of Troops, commentators saying how too many people take their Freedoms for granted. it really seems inescapable. there's almost no mention of any sort of history as far as i can tell, only abstract mentions of 'freedom', 'sacrifice' and so on. im guessing nba is specifically heavily targetted, probably a mostly young male audience? or is literally everything in USA like this for veterans day?

in Australia the focus seems more on the historical Troops, largely WW1 for whatever reason. I say historical, but really its a very broad appeal to history, just references to Galipoli, photos of old timey shit. i grew up in this and i know almost nothing concrete about WW1 and just as little about australias role in said war. also the volume is far less. a few mentions here and there. people wearing the poppy pins. a news report about how ww1 is still relevent to the youth of today. all very tame and crude stuff in terms of propaganda.

my entire Facebook feed is full of tree-hugging liberals Thanking Our Troops and decrying how retired childkillers are not receiving enough tax dollars and free health care, instead of talking about how we should be draining their blood to reclaim valuable antibodies that could be used to protect the glistening, sinewy bodies of the new, more effective generation of mechanized patriots

Because American Female Troops have a 40-70% rate of being sexually assaulted, the veterans administration had to make up a new word for rape so they could provide psychological services to the women without actually discussing the fact that american Troop are such rape loving monsters. Now, thanks to the magic of propaganda, Female Troop just have "military sexual trauma." Happy veterans day.

rofl funny, coudlve just said "she stayed home for veterans day" but had to take a non-sequitur shot at mlk day for some reason.
#24
amusing but likely false as veterans day is observed as a holiday in every state in the US. MLK day is also observed as a holiday in every state in the US except the three which it shares with Robert E. Lee day.

if you can guess those 3 states, congratulations, you've heard of america. although you'll probably get one wrong, your next choice will probably be right.

http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/news/article/mlb/mlb-pitches-in-for-american-veterans-in-game-1-initiative?ymd=20131023&content_id=63255560&vkey=news_mlb

BOSTON -- Carl Yastrzemski threw out the ceremonial first pitch on Wednesday night before Game 1 of the 109th World Series between the Cardinals and Red Sox -- "almost in the dirt," he said with a little relief -- and he vividly recalls his historic Triple Crown season of 1967 that ended when this same matchup of clubs produced a seven-game St. Louis victory over Boston.

And the great Yaz remembers what America's relationship was with its military at that time.

"In '67, you had a very anti-war thing," Yastrzemski told MLB.com after bringing the Fenway crowd to a roar. "Not right now where they're supporting our troops and things of that nature. So it's very different times. It was almost like things like baseball weren't important in '67, with so many protests going on and things like that."

Remember that a lot of the support the troops nonsense comes from the myth that Vietnam veterans were being spit on and the media was like: "We can't let that happen again."

since long before liberals started arguing about female combat troops women have suffered sexual violence in military service, mostly in noncombat capacity, and in addition to the sexual violence always inflicted on victim populations in war. being a woman and hanging around strung out murderers and architects of war crimes turns out to be frightening and terrible, who would have thought. maybe the military is a terrible institution and we should dismantle it.

serious question then: why do women keep clamoring and fighting so hard for greater and greater access, inclusion, and time alone with these megaraping strung out murderers and architects of war crimes? there is literally ZERO social conditioning or pressure for women to join the military. so what gives. why do so many women increasingly continue to choose to put themselves at such risk, for so little reward? its like men volunteering to become prison bathroom attendants

men in military service are volunteering to be subjected to violent conditions among themselves and their enemies as well, so perhaps you don't really need to act so incredulous and salacious about this? surely the rate of male-on-male sexual assault is also very high but much, much less likely to be reported? so do men become troops because they love being around other murderous rapist men?
