the majority of US "workers" are engaged in low-wage retail and service jobs. unionism is a step in the right direction. the infrastructure is there to transmit important ideas and educate one another, and the majority of US low wage workers are not anti-union

It's awful press, unions are the most reformist force in existence. You'll end up with something like the AFL-CIO which is just a closed shop controlled by corporate leadership actively working to harm workers.

Rather than aiding the SEIU, MoveOn.org, or whoever else is working for worker's rights (the very idea of "rights" implies something short of complete dictatorship of the proletariat), it makes much more sense to focus on building revolutionary consciousness for the inevitable, impending, and highly likely communist social revolution.
